Beautiful, Practical, and Surprisingly Sanity-Saving
I first saw these on TikTok and thought, “Do I really need bougie jars for flour and water?” Turns out — yes, yes I do. I originally bought this set as a thank-you gift for a friend deep in her sourdough era, and she loved them so much that I ended up ordering another set for myself. Now my adult daughter and I are actually enjoying the starter process — and bonding over the adventure of it all. The size is perfect, the glass is sturdy, and the wide mouth makes stirring, feeding, and cleaning so much easier than mason jars. No more crusty threads or sticky starter cement. They look beautiful on the counter, feel solid in hand, and somehow make me feel like a real adult baker instead of a chaotic kitchen goblin. If your sourdough starter has been testing your patience, these jars will absolutely restore a bit of peace (and pride) to the process.

Great for Home Sourdough and Everyday Kitchen Use
These Weck jars are perfect for casual or home sourdough bakers. The glass is thick and durable, and they provide a reliable container for sourdough starters. They’re also easy to clean and don’t retain odors, making them versatile for other kitchen uses. The only limitation is their size—they’re not suitable for commercial baking or large batches, so they work best for small-scale home baking. Tip: Use them to maintain your sourdough starter, and label each jar if you have multiple starters. Verdict: A high-quality, versatile jar for home bakers. Reliable and attractive, but not intended for commercial-scale baking. This was easy to assemble (no assembly required) and I would highly recommend purchasing this for aspiring sourdough bakers!

Great for sourdough starter
I bought this set of two Weck jars to use for my sourdough starter. Each week, I take out 50-75 grams of starter to feed in one jar, marked with a green rubberband to indicate the starting level, and use for my next loaf of bread. I put the discard in the other jar (with a purple rubber band around it to mark the level) to use in biscuits, waffles, English muffins, etc throughout the week. It’s a great system to keep my sourdough well-fed and maintained. The jars have nice, wide mouths, which makes it easy to get the starter in and out. They’re thick, sturdy glass that won’t break if you bump them into something or tap a spoon against the edge. I use the glass lid and rubber gasket without the clips, so the gasses released by my starter don’t build up pressure inside the jar. It is exactly what I needed, and I’m glad I went with this option, rather than some of the plastic options I saw labeled as sourdough starter jars. Both jars (my active and my discard) live on the top shelf in my refrigerator, since I usually don’t bake bread more than once a week, and don’t want to have to feed/discard every day. I usually feed Friday evening and leave the active jar out overnight to double, then bake with it on Saturday.

Best Jars Ever- great for sourdough starter!
These Weck jars are the real deal. Great quality, prefect large capacity, keeps food and sourdough starter fresh, and are easy to clean. My grip is weak, and I sometimes drop the lip or the jar in the sink while cleaning them. I flinch preparing to clean up glass- but nope! They hold up to my clumsy hands and I have yet to have one crack or break.

Amazing sourdough starter jars!
Absolutely love these jars! I had some cheap sourdough starter jars that had metal lids and they started to rust. I wasn’t sure if it was really a big issue, but then one day my starter looked pink, and it was because the water that had condensed at the top was dripping down into my starter, making my starter look pink. If you make sourdough, you know that if your starter turns pink, it could contain a very dangerous bacteria and then you must throw out your starter. Because I saw the pink it freaked me out, so I threw out my starter, but I think it was just because of the resting lids. The lid wasn’t rusted when I put it on, but because I had scratched off of a bit of dried on starter at the top of the lid and then washed it, and then put it on the jar, but then when the condensation formed, it started to rust without my knowledge. These jars take care of all of that! Everything is made of really high-quality glass and I love that it comes from Germany. Whenever I’m growing my starter, I don’t put the metal clips on because I’m afraid it might cause too much pressure buildup, and crack the jar, but when I’m storing the jar and lid in the cabinet, I put on the clips. Otherwise, I keep my clips in a drawer. I got the set that comes with the stay fresh plastic lids and they are great for keeping my discard in the fridge. These jars are the perfect size and I love how my whole hand fits inside when I stir the starter. They hold a lot of starter, which is great. They are really easy to use and the clips are simple. These jars are a game changer for anybody who makes sourdough!

High quality product/matierials.
Problem: I needed more sourdough jars! Solution: I have two starters and I already have – and love – the 3/4 liter Weck Canning jars so I wanted to be able to tell them apart. Impression: These jars are 1 liter and I was worried they would be too big but they are not! I can barely tell that they are bigger. How does it work: I removed the clips and plastic ring from the lid. I actually use the rubber ring as my band to monitor growth! Pros: Thick, solid, easy to clean, aesthetically pleasing. Cons: No cons to mention. Final note: I love these sourdough jars.
