I would say 1/8 inch or slightly more. Although that may sound relatively thin, the mount is rigid and when mounted is very solid. It is also very straightforward to mount.

Q: Motl high lift jack in large print says it will fit jk wrangler in small print it says it fits jl wrangler which is it?

It fits the JK. I put one on my 2013. Just make sure what ever jack you get has a base plate that will fit in the MOTL bracket. I bought a Smittybilt jack, and I had to grind a bit off the sides of the base plate. You will have to sacrifice the plastic hinge cover though.

Q: Has someone tried mounting it outside a PU bed box storage unit vertically?

The jack mount is held in place by two bolts. You could drill two holes and bolt it in place.
