Do not hesitate, go ahead and buy 2.
The Rat II is literally the best EDC knife there is, for multiple reasons. One of the biggest is the fact that if/when you lose it, you won't be heartbroken at this price point. Go ahead and buy 2 just in case. Furthermore, the build quality, ergonomics, durability, and smooth opening far exceed anything else you will find at anywhere near this price. I have dozens of pocket knives from various manufacturers, and this is easily the one I choose to use every day. I have beefier, more robust knives that I have bought over the years thinking I wanted something for more demanding tasks should they arise, but the fact is, I almost never use them because of the weight. The Rat II is very lightweight, takes up little space, and is ideal for 99% of situations. If I had to say anything negative about it, it would be that if your keys rub up against it every day, the paint will rub off of the pocket clip, but that hardly matters. I have carried this knife for years and have unfortunately lost 2 of them. In a pinch, I occasionally will buy something else to get me by but they always weigh a lot more and I buy another Rat II and they end up in the drawer. Look no further, this is the one!

superb little knife.easily worth twice the price
I now have 7 of these Ontario knives.3 full size model 1's including one D2 steel bladed model from Knife Works, 3 model 2's and a utilitac. Every one has been exceptionally well made. Every one has had a perfect finish, had perfectly centered blades, buttery smooth actions with solid secure lockup and every one has a screaming sharp edge.EVERY one! Thats an impressive track record in my mind and shows that Ontario knife company has effective quality control procedures and cares about their products. I cannot recommend these knives enough. They are without a doubt the best, most capable and versatile knives you can buy under $40 and compare favorably with some other knives in the $50-$100 range. If your thinking the model 2 is too small, dont sweat it. This thing is great, can do just about anything you might need it to, does it without taking up much pocket space and weighs next to nothing. It fits my large hands very nicely and is every bit the workhorse the larger model 1 is. And if your looking for a knife for your wife/gf look no further. I bought 2 for my gf and her mother and they love them. Theyve both learned to use them very effectively. And they love the pink handles.Excellent, EXCELLENT knives and extremely highly recommended. See my other reviews of the pink model 2,model 1 and utilitac if you want details.

Great value blade
Here's the highlights:-very well made blade of pretty decent steel for the price-very useful blade shape with a great grind from factory.-excellent grip considering the uses for a small folder-no problems with the factory condition.-for the money this is one of the best knives I've ever owned. After reading all the positive reviews for this knife all over the internet I recently decided to buy one and try it out. I usually carry an assisted opening knife but I wanted a carry knife option that wasn't assisted in case I found myself in a location that it was illegal to carry an assisted blade. If you just want to know my opinion and be off then know this is a very nice blade for the money. You could buy 4 or 5 of these things for the price of many other comparable knives. Based on quality this knife would still be a good option if it were 3 times more expensive then it is.The knife was a little smaller than I expected but I have a feeling that's just because I've been carrying a Sog Trident for a few years which is a larger knife and I'm used to it by now. The knife was in great shape when it arrived and there was a coating of oil on the blade. The aus8 steel was very sharp and nicely ground. There were no chips, knicks, scratches, etc from the factory. I haven't had any reason to open it up and look at the internals but I'm sure they are about the quality you'd expect in a high quality value knife. The jimping is excellent. It is very easy to get a good grasp on the knife despite being fairly compact. The handle is a little smooth and if I had a complaint that might be it. However with the jimping and the little finger groove for your index finger I have no fear of being able to hang on to it. The Rat 2 is fairly compact so I wouldn't expect to be doing anything incredibly tough with it anyway. It might be more of a noticable flaw with the larger Rat 1 but I will probably be buying the larger Rat in the future anyway. If it's the same quality of its smaller brother I'm sure it's worth it to have both.I haven't had to sharpen the blade yet but it's Aus8 steel. In use I haven't noticed any flaws with the heat treatment so I'm going to go ahead and assume it's a quality tempered Aus8 blade that acts like aus8 should. Fairly tough stuff that's not too difficult to keep sharp. It doesn't chip easily and it should last as long as you want it. I really like the blade shape surprisingly. It's a very useful sweep that kind of reminds me of a kitchen knife but that makes it very utilitarian. It has a strong tip too so I'm not very worried about it breaking. I have a kershaw leek I sometimes carry but I've never liked the fragile blade shape with those. This doesn't seem like a knife you'd have to worry about. As I've said all throughout this review, I really like the knife. It isn't the greatest knife ever made. It isn't even the nicest I currently own. However for the price you pay it is excellent quality. There's really nothing wrong with it. The blade is a high quality (mid grade) steel, the ergonomics are good, and the value is exceptional. I like the design and I think it works exactly how it was intended. I recommend the knife to anyone that wants something to carry and use. You probably wont impress a knife snob carrying it, but it will do its job just as well as whatever benchmade or overpriced 300$ knife they tell you you should have bought. And when they lose their knife and cry themselves to sleep you can revel in the fact that you could loose 8 of these and still not have lost as much money as them.

Great EDC Addition
This is a great affordable EDC blade. I purchased it based off of the reviews from various websites and YouTube videos, and I am very satisfied. Comes razor sharp, feels great in the hand, and is overall rock solid. The only reason for 4 stars from me is I think I expected a bit smoother of an opening. Everything I saw online made it seem buttery smooth and extremely easy to flick open with hardly any effort. That definitely was not the case with mine. Out of the box it was pretty ridiculously hard to open and wasn't very smooth. After a long break-in (as well as adjusting the pivot screw and oiling) it's certainly gotten smoother and easier to flick open, but nowhere near what it seems like in all the videos. I can't complain too much because it's great for the price, just something to note that doesn't seem too popular from other reviews. I still love the knife and would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive EDC knife.
