Expensive but works
I kept looking for a cheaper knockoff, but none of them worked well so I bought the name brand. Zero issues since. Hopefully it lasts a long time!

works with a 1970s Welch Allyn
This battery works with an older Welch Allyn otoscope 71050 plug in handle. Cannot say about longevity yet, but was pleased the light bulb came on with this battery.

Read this for important info on WA battery
A few important points for those seeking replacement WA batteries. First off most ads are misleading showing a WA battery but delivering a copy. Real WA batteries are made in Japan not China and are typically over $70 (although I've seen them for around $60 or so). Secondly, be sure to check the voltage as there are sellers who sell batteries that fit but with lower or higher voltage. Third check the contact clip found near the negative end of the battery. Its a manufacturing defect for the end of the clip (typically hidden under the wrap) to stick out. If it does your battery won't fit. Fourth, non-oem batteries typically have a shorter positive head than the WA ones. This may an issue with your particular device as the contact for the positive head (on the screw on piece) can vary in height a little bit, but enough so that its possible it may not make contact with the top of non-OEM batteries. This poor contact may result in the batteries overheating as you charge them. Having said all the above I still bought this non-oem battery because I couldn't stomach paying the WA price.

We obtained what was needed for our oto/ophthalmoscope. It wasprompt as the old batteries had completely died and the instrument was needed.
