I have a couple of decent full sized umbrellas, but I've always just used cheap travel umbrellas which just don't work all that well, fall apart quickly, and are a pain to use. Immediately upon unboxing this umbrella you realize it's something different due to the heft of it. Rather than reading the directions as I should have, it took me a minute or so fiddling with it to figure out how it deploys and retracts. It's actually much simpler than cheaper ones. You simply loosen the velcro strap and push the button. There's no catch you have to push the collar past to mess with. To retract you simply push the button again and push the two ends together. At any rate my first couple of uses out of this thing has managed to impress me with the quality and utility of it. Time will tell if it lasts, but so far I'm quite happy with my purchase and would certainly buy it again. The guy that made the alleging they lied about the 60mph testing apparently can't read all that well. They clearly say the umbrella is tested to 60mph GUSTS which is quite different than 60mph sustained winds the guy is trying to test the umbrella for. I'm sure he thinks he's smart lashing the umbrella to his truck and filming the thing going down the road, but I was laughing hysterically by that point at how inept he was. If you ever find yourself in 60mph sustained winds and manage to hold on to an umbrella that's not going to fold up, I'm pretty sure you're going to be doing a pretty good Mary Poppins impression.

I just received this compact umbrella in anticipation of rain in California this winter. (Insert hope here--we need it!) We live in a windy part of the state, and we get gusts up to 40 mph. I know that's not Chicago grade, but it's close enough to make me curse the umbrellas I've had before this one when they inverted and broke. I agree with other reviewers that you can never find an umbrella when you need one, so I plan to get at least one more of these to keep in the car. Luckily, there are many color choices, all of them nice. I got the purple color, and it's gorgeous.When I showed my husband the open/close push-button mechanism, he loved it. Even though I read the description carefully before purchasing, it was hard to believe how easily the umbrella worked and how well-designed it is. It really is compact when closed, and really full-size when opened. I love this product, and some members of my family are going to get a chance to love it, too.

I ordered two of these for my daughters to take the school. They spent a good part of a half an hour deciding which color/pattern to choose (clouds and clouds with blue on top). They are both thrilled and the umbrellas feel very durable without adding too much weight to their already heavy backpacks. The umbrellas are very compact when folded down (about 11" long). They are a little thick when folded (about 3" in diameter), but that is because of the generous size when fully open. The girls each wanted their own, but the size definitely allows for easy sharing. The girls love the collapse button, too. No pinched fingers. Crown Coast sent us materials with information for best use and care of the umbrellas and checked in to make sure everything went well with the shipping and receipt. Overall very happy with the purchase and the customer service.

It's okay. It's smaller than I expected and I'm not a huge person. I guess I should have a better idea of what the size of an umbrella is, but I feel like it's barely big enough for me to fit under. I haven't had an issues with it in the rain/wind, but then I haven't been in a windy storm recently.After using it for a little bit, the umbrella doesn't fully collapse when you click the open/close button. I have to manually push it to close and i think this eventually broke the umbrella. Unfortunately, there was no other way to collapse the canopy and then push it down. Now, the canopy part doesn't even open. When I push the button, it shoots out with the force of a thousand bees and actually has ripped itself out of my hands and projectilled two feet. The canopy doesn't open though. It just does this crappy impression of a canon ball.

I really wanted to love this umbrella, but the closing mechanism malfunctions pretty regularly. One time, I was caught in a lobby trying desparately to get this thing to close and it was really quite embarrassing! I ended up having to shove the handle against a wall to jam it into place. It's a shame, because the actual umbrella function is great - it's sturdy and holds up well in wind. But the search for a good umbrella continues!

The umbrella is attractive, sturdy, and easy to open. I like its small size in its unopened state. The push button easily opens the umbrella but it takes a stronger press to shut the umbrella. Something to consider: The umbrella opens quickly. Be careful where you open it. It opens so quickly it may knock something over or inadvertently push against someone.I am going to take a vacation to a country that's known for its typhoons. I think I'm ready.
