Much more pleasant to use than ones you have to twist/rotate. Outputs a satisfying amount of ground pepper with each ratchet--it does not take very long to fill the included container.

There are many things I love about this (and I've searched and owned quite a few). The adjustable ceramic grinding stone is the best! The ratchet handle is so easy to use, especially if you have arthritic hands. It is easy to fill. But the best feature is the removable spice jar at the bottom (with measurements no less) - hands down, this is the top reason for me! Not only does it measure and contain pepper (or whatever spice you are grinding), but it keeps your table or tray from having all those loose grains of pepper that you constantly have to wipe up or clean from your table. And if you have a pepper grinder that has a lid on top of the grinder that prevents this problem, you still have to remove the lid before using. Not the case with this one! I can grind into the attached spice jar or not use it, but it keeps my table clean and free of pepper grains. Thire is an almost identical Rikon Essential Adjustable Ratchet Grinder that comes without the attached spice jar (known simply as Rikon Adjustable Ratchet Grinder - missing the word "Essential") that has a ball at the top of the ratchet - don't mistakenly get this one if you want the attached spice jar because it doesn't come with one and the extra spice jars that can be ordered separately won't fit this model.

This has been a game-changer. easy to use. easy to adjust. You get more out of it in less time compared to the twist or electric ones I've used.

I use the Kuhn Rikon ratchet grinder to crush korarima seeds(Ethiopian spice) and dispense it directly to a pan with hot oil. It takes me a few seconds to grind the seeds in the quantity that I need. I have owned three of these over the years, and I just keep different spices in them. I prefer to grind the spices as I need because the flavor is better and the spices also last longer if kept in whole form. It mostly works with the harder and dry spices. I have had success with cumin and coriander seeds as well. Others you will have to just try. The grinder also has a dial at the bottom which you can use to adjust from FINE to COARSE. The grinder also comes with a detachable spice jar that screws to the bottom of the grinder. One could grind spices in advance and use this to store them. I personally prefer to grind as and when I need the spices. It is a good quality product as are most of Kuhn Rikon's kitchen gadgets.

I have seen this item used and promoted by Chris Kimball's Milkstreet for a while, and finally ordered one. It works as promised, I am using even more that I expected. I have had a more traditional pepper grinder for years, and it was fine unless you need more than a teaspoon or fresh ground pepper. This grinder can give you a tablespoon or more with much less effort. I highly recommend.

Best pepper grinder because it goes back-and-forth instead of having to turn it, which can be difficult with wet hands in the kitchen. I have the old model and the new model, the difference between the very top part that you hold. I like the round ball/sphere design better than the flat circular design with their logo. The old round ball model just feels better in your hand and has a better grip. Another feature that I love about this pepper grinder is how easy it is to refill. Just flip open the back compartment, fill it with peppercorns and close it. Easy Peezy.

Good design. I bought one for myself and then I bought another for my daughter in law.

I had such high hopes for this grinder. Unfortunately it doesn't stand up. The width of the container is 2.5 inches. The width of the hole that stuff goes through to be ground up is miniscule 1 mm?. Barely handles peppercorns and that takes some effort. In fact the cheap plastic pepper grinder that some peppercorns ship with in their packaging works better than this product. I originally bought this to grind up Thai chilli peppers from the bushes at our house. Complete fail even after going so far as to manually grind them in a mortar and pestal. The 2'nd biggest flaw in this product other than that it doesn't grind spices is that once you put something into it to be ground up and it fails to grind you can't clean it out. No way to to empty the unground material. Not sure what kind of spices this thing is supposed to grind up but it doesn't work with anything that we have in our kitchen. So far this is the worst product I have shelled out money for on Amazon. Scam marketing.

I use mine for pepper, it's fast and it's easy to use, even if your hands are wet. I'm recovering from a broken wrist and I still find it difficult and painful to do that twisting motion of most grinders. The ratchet motion is much easier. I think it would be good for people with arthritis too but even if you don't have those issues, it's just easier, period, especially with wet hands. I also like the collection cup at the bottom. It's great for measuring amounts for cooking and it keeps the residual pepper grounds from dropping onto the cupboard shelf when you store it.

Brilliant grinder. The only quibble is the loading hatch can be dislodged from its pivot if gripped too hard. Simple to put back though! Definitely a full 5-star product all round.

it's a bit bigger than I had hoped for but it works extremely well. I have a cupboard full of pepper grinders accumulated over 15 yrs. None gave me the grind I wanted. I will be throwing most of them out now because 'This is the Way' this one is perfect for my needs, the size of the grind is adjustable from powder to very coarse. I will be buying another one to use with salt.

Just love this pepper mill. It is easy to fill and work. Wish I'd known about this style of pepper mill years ago. Will be buying more to grind my sea salt and also my other types of peppercorns.
