This lubricant is my go to for cleaning and lubricating measuring tools in my shop. It works amazing and lasts a long time.

The spray can was shipped without the red cap or the internal spray nozzle shown in the picture. This allowed the plastic thing where the nozzle should attach to puncture the side of the box which was wet with the spray. How much product was lost is uncertain, but most definitely there was loss.

This works great as a rust preventative but does not work well as a lubricant for precision measuring devices like micrometers and indicators. Once this "dry film" lubricant sits for a while, your mics will be very stiff to use and your indicators may not move at all. Do yourself a favor and use this stuff to protect metal surfaces from rust and get yourself some "Lilly white" sewing machine oil (sometimes marketed as "Zoom Spout") for keeping your mics working smoothly.

If a spray for rust protection is needed, this is for you. This protects metals with a thin coat of oil or if needed, spray again. I use this on machining tools after each clean up. It also works well for your metal wood working tools, where a little bit of oil that won't harm your projects is ok. I have also used this for oiling the internal tumblers of door locks as well as hinges on the home and auto doors with excellent results. I'm very happy and I highly recommend it.

My primary use for Starrett M1 oil is to protect the cast iron tables on my table saw and drill press, etc. The oil is made for protecting metal. It oxidizes very slowly, so it can be wiped off easily when using the tool. It does not affect other coatings I might put on the tools (such as Glidecote), and protects my cast iron against rust in the humid NC Piedmont summers. I also promptly spray any sweat drips that might hit the cast iron. The case price from Amazon (prime) was the best I could find, with the caveat of having to wait for a while before delivery, and having my first order canceled because of unobtainability. The second order was delivered considerably faster than scheduled. In addition to protection, the oil is a good lubricant, where spray oils are appropriate. I suggest that you search other vendors for bladecote.
