Q: Would this backpack be a good choice for 12 year old Scout?

I would say no for a 12 year old especially if the child is a little on the small or petite side. It fit really well on my 17-year-old 5‘9“ tall son. It does adjust size in the shoulders to make a little bit shorter but then it makes it a little more top-heavy that way. If you have a sporting good store near you that carries camping equipment I would go there and try on some of the different size in the backpacks that will give you an answer as to what size would be good. But I will without a doubt stand behind the Osprey brand it’s a wonderful brand and they do guarantee for life the quality of their backpacks. The only brand pack we use.

Q: What size is this pack. I need a 19 inch, so i’m right between ospreys s/m and m/l. I don’t see a size option. will it fit me?

I am 5'6'' and the Osprey Rook 50 Men's works for me. It has many adjustments for someone to find just the right comfort.
