Yes, but I would suggest something else that's strictly for heat protection, I use this usually after hair straightened as a frizz tamer

Is it basically a silicone coating in hair?

I don't feel that it is. This serum is perfect for curly frizzy hair. It smells great, holds hair well, no greasiness and is super shiny.

i am not sure about tbis product being vegan.
