These work on my old 306W Singer.
The 306W is my favorite machine for heavy work (I have 10 machines). You can't get the original 206x13 needles for this machine anymore. These are smaller diameter, 1 mm longer, and have no flat, so you have to put the slot to the front, but the machine absolutely doesn't care. It works just as well, even on heavy work, as the the original 206x13s. These needles are fantastic.I have included a photo of a test run. Size 16 needles with v69 sail thread and 2 to 10 layers of 6.4 oz sail material (probably the hardest material to sew). I tried an inexpensive Singer (2732, ~ $100 at WalMart), a Pfaff 1222E (they go for $850 refurbished on Ebay), and a Singer 306W, my favorite machine, (free, somebody threw it away). The only legitimate complaint about the 306 is that they don't make needles for it anymore (I bought probably the last Schmetz size 16 206x13 needles ever, from Australia, a year ago). Further research turned up several blogs (in Australia) where several people said the DBx1 needles worked in the 306W. YES THEY DO. EXCELLENT.

Pointy and sharp!
Seriously ... what can you say about sewing machine needles.

These needles are strong!
This needle is wonderful! I see towel wraps, and when I get to the eyes of the towels it is thick and I have broken countless needles sewing the edges. This needle is strong enough to push through the doubled edges of the towels. You of course have to slow down when sewing the thicker parts, but I don't have to stop and replace needles now. I don't know how well they will hold up over time, but I will update. Yes they cost a bit more than other heavy duty needles, but if you don't have to stop and replace needles as often that will save you time and money in the long run. I will definitely be ordering more in the future.

Not for ordinary sewing
I bought these because a project I'm working on has a part where about 6 layers of fabric come together in a hem and I've been having a hard time stitching through it with a size 16 needle. Unfortunately, while this needle does get through the fabric, it also breaks the thread while doing it. I think this really is intended for some heavy-duty upholstery or bonded nylon thread. Just keep that in mind before buying. Otherwise this is a great needle and it does fit in my Brother ST371HD "Strong and Tough" sewing machine.

Works great in a vintage Singer 96 series Industrial sewing machine.
Recently got a 1930 Singer 96-47, which required 16x231 needles. I was happy that they were offered in size 18. Works great with #69 poly bonded thread and will go though 8 layers of 1000D Cordura with ease.
