Wonderful smoky flavor!
Loved these peppers! Very smoky flavor…just what I was looking for! You can rehydrate them or you can grind them up to use them in recipes. These were wonderful and I will be ordering from this company again.

Very disappointed
I know I ordered dried chiles but these must have been dried in another century. I tried reconstituting them in very hot water for 45 min. but they were still hard as rocks. So I poured out that water & added fresh boiling water & let them soak for well over an hour, until the water had cooled. Not noticeably any more pliant & hard to open and de-seed.After chopping then into chunks (a tedious job) I had to grind the living daylights out of them to get a reasonable quality of chipotle puree to use in salsa & stews etc. Buyer Beware. (I ordinarily like to buy my dried chiles in person so I can see their quality, but these chiles are very hard to find except online.)

Dry
Too dry. I don't know how long these have been in storage but these are too dry. My parents made Chiles Navideños (from Puebla), and some were too dry enven when we let them soak for a long time. No many chiles made it whole. We still got to make an ok amount and we're happy were could try the chiles in a traditional way.

What these Chili's are NOT.....
I've read the reviews and it seems like some people are reviewing a product that they know nothing about. These are Meco Chipotle Peppers and they are different than the more common Morita Chipotle Pepper.Morita Chipotle Peppers are slightly younger Jalapeno peppers that are ripened on the plant until they are red and then they are taken off and smoked until they are about half dry (and smoked). Morita Peppers are still slightly soft and somewhat pliable and have a nice sweet, spicy and smoky flavor.Meco Chipote Peppers are generally older red (ripe) Jalapeno peppers that are generally fully ripened on the plant and might even begin to dry up slightly and shrivel up on the plant a little bit. Once they are removed from the plant, they are very heavily smoked and completely dried to the point where there is virtually no moisture left in them. They are incredibly smoky and very rich and full. They might also be slightly more spicy that a Morita Chipotle since they generally have a little bit longer to ripen on the vine and therefore might have a slightly higher capsaicin level and therefore be slightly more spicy. They might also be just slightly larger than a Morita Chipotle Pepper because they generally have had a bit longer to grow and to fully ripen on the plant. I have not ordered this particular pepper from this vendor but have used Meco Chipotle Peppers and I prefer the Meco Chipotle over the Morita Peppers. They tend to be a little more spicy and quite a bit more smoky. They can also be reconstituted by soaking them in hot water for half an hour or so to make them more soft and pliable. I usually grind them in my spice grinder and just add them to foods in a ground up consistency.

Definitely Chipotle - very dehydrated, so good weight for $
These were so dry that we let them sit on a damp paper towel for a bit before chopping to prevent shattered pieces flying all over. Good flavor, not as picante as others we've had - but these were available and we're not disappointed.
