Pentel makes a good product.
The Pentel Sharplet is a nice economical pencil. It works well and is reliable. I like it because it the qaulity is there even at this low price. I recommend it for someone who needs a mechanical pencil but may be concerned about expense.

Good and cheap but too small for big hands and no brass in the clutch
Good and cheap but too small for big hands and no brass in the clutch. Wanted to relive my enjoyment of this that I had as a kid but I have grown and so have my interests. Pentel sharp p200 or p505 are better choices.

My new favorite "cheap" pencil
These are the kinds of pencils you buy and just leave everywhere. They work really well and aren't SO expensive that you don't mind lending them or keeping some in the car or workshop. The eraser doesn't last forever, but that's my only gripe about this (and almost every other mechanical) pencil.Solid build. I don't use them for a long time at one time, but they are comfortable for quick use. Clip is sturdy and the click is satisfying.

I've used a lot of mechanical pencils, and this is by far the best.
As an engineer, I write A LOT. I've tried every mechanical pencil imaginable. It's almost a fetish. I have hundreds at my home. I'm a big fan of the Pentel Graph Gear 1000 Automatic Drafting Pencil, 0.5mm Lead Size, Brushed Metal Barrel, 1 Each (PG1015A) for drawing or drafting. I find that the tip of its cousin, the Pentel Sharp Automatic Pencil, 0.5mm, Black Barrels, 2 Pack (P205BP2-K6) series will become loose and wobbly and slippery when sweaty. , When I need to write fast or make calculations, I prefer the Pentel Sharplet-2. This is the best of Pentel's line, in my opinion. It has a simple design and it's really the only pencil I've been able to use for extensive periods without being uncomfortable. If you're a student or write a lot, this would be the only pencil I recommend. (Eraser refills can be found readily on Prime Pentel Mechanical Pencil Eraser Refills, Z21, 3/Tube, PK - PENZ21 but you should probably be using a dedicated eraser such as the Pentel Hi-polymer Block Eraser, Large, 3 Pack, White (ZEH10BP3-K6) or if you prefer stick type Paper Mate Tuff Stuff Eraser Stick (SN64801) and its respective refills Paper Mate Tuff Stuff Eraser Refill, Small, White all of which work great and are available through Prime or as an add-on.)It has an eraser cover, which I usually leave on because it adds a slight bit of weight that provides a nice balance for the pencil, it also reminds me to use a dedicated eraser because you'll burn up the included one rather quickly.I also leave on the pocket clip mainly because I use it and keep the pencil in my front pocket, but I also find it harmonizes the balance of the pencil and provides a nice area for the pencil to rest between my thumb and finger. The end screws on very firmly and I haven't had a problem with it coming loose. The blue/black is a nice color scheme (.5 is black/black and .9 is yellow/brown). If you write a lot like me and own a plethora of mechanical pencils, the Pentel Super Hi-Polymer bulk pack of lead refills is a good bargain Pentel Super Hi-Polymer Lead Refill, 0.7mm Medium, 2B, 144 Pieces of Lead (50-2B) and will last you a lifetime. (Be sure to choose appropriate hardness, HB is standard - I have used up to 4H in this pencil)I prefer the .7mm because I write heavy and like dark marks. I do however, frequently use the .5 and .9mm for different applications.I use the .5mm when I need more precision such as drawing free body diagrams, or engineering sketches. I use the .9mm when working in the oilfield sometimes wearing impact gloves and writing in a tally book.Lastly, if you're buying the bulk 12-pack, they come with a sticker on each pencil that leaves a bit of residue that may take some goo-gone or cleaner to remove.

BEST Mechanical Pencil!
Might I say these are the BEST mechanical pencils on the market! I have a lot of different brands, but these are precise!Great for note taking at fast pace. I have the 0.5 lead.

Hard to find locally
I don't know why these are hard to find in local stores; I thought Pentel had made them unavailable in bulk, but I see Amazon sells them by the dozen. None of the other mechanical pencils has the same feel as these do; the ridges on the barrel make the pencil non-slip without the need for a cushy rubber grip, which I just don't care for.

Great pencil.
Its a really nice pencil, just needs a little extra grip, for me personally its a little on the skinnier side.
