Exploring Creation with General Science, 2nd Edition

Dr. Wile is a very thorough teacher of science and actually has a Ph.D. in nuclear chemistry. I have learned so much from this book in a very short period of time. It is a middle school curriculum and covers everything it should for that level. I am not sure why some of the reviews said it didn't. I have never really been highly interested in science, but I find myself wanting to read this book just for fun because my background in science is very weak. I would suggest just reading a few sections a day, so you won't be overwhelmed.It is a great introduction to all of the areas of science. There is a chapter on just about every scientific topic from the history of science to physics, archaeology, human anatomy and physiology, and much more. My favorite part about this book is that he speaks as a Christian scientists and shares how Christianity is not opposed to science at all and actually provides a worldview where science exists. The Roman Catholic monks preserved not just the Bible but also great scientific works. People are probably more opposed to science because it usually comes at it from such a evolutionary, atheistic perspective, and this book shows that that does not have to be the case.

General Science is the first course in the Apologia upper level science sequence. This is our 3rd time using this Apologia course, and the first time with the 2nd edition. Our children have all been challenged by the academic leap that this text takes from elementary science, but Dr. Wile has made the transition as accessible as he can. There are a number of resources that can help with scheduling. This course includes a significant number of experiments to demonstrate topics being covered. The labs work! And they aren't fluff - they clearly highlight or demonstrate the topic at hand. We also appreciate the reverent tone of all the texts in this series. Evidences of God's hand in creation are exposed and celebrated. This newer edition is beautiful and, I hear, has some changes based on new information in the science world. Highly recommended!

Our family has used Apologia science curriculum for a while. The General Science is quite a step up from the younger series, and we plan to get an audio CD to go with this so that our auditory learners can better process the info. (They are all strong readers, but still enjoyed me reading aloud for science when they were younger. There is a LOT more reading with this, and I don't have the time to do that on a regular basis.) You can use the book alone, but I highly recommend purchasing the key and tests booklet. The notebooks are also a nice addition if they are in your budget, but not absolutely necessary.

My daughter read through about 3/4 of this book. She enjoyed the reads and the science experiments were excellent. They didn't require any strange items and were written well enough that she could be independent. The tests were appropriate and I felt it's a good prep for the high school science I remember. This year she is taking honors biology in public school and was disappointed in the amount of writing required vs. playing with experiments. She currently has a B+ and I expect an A by the end of the year. I think this curriculum was a good prep. I kept reminding her the amount of writing that would be required and graded her according to language arts skills too. I would have enjoyed experiencing the next book in the series.

Good product. Reader does a nice job. I do wish it was abridged to match the suggested reading schedule.

Love it! Im so happy I chose this textbook for my daughters homeschool science curriculum. Ive been skimming through this book and the information is fascinating. I have to admit I was intimidated at first because its wordy and doesnt have as many pictures as other textbooks, but it really makes up for it with quality information. He presents information in a way that makes you think and presents all views of science so your student will be prepared to defend in his/her beliefs intellectually. If you are looking for a Christian science book get this!

I received the book on time, I’m excited to start teaching my kid....the only really downside and I’m very disappointed is that is very clear this book is used.I was expecting a new book and I couldn’t find anywhere in the description that said otherwise.😔😔😔
