Dumbal Drive Overdrive Pedal for Electric Guitar - Dumble Style With 2 Band EQ Boost Effect, Pure Analog True Bypass

So I picked this up because I needed a digital reverb and I've had really good luck with Donner in the past. I already have an Afterneath, but that's not exactly an "always-on" pedal if you know what I mean. I'm also really picky about reverb pedals, as they are so easy to get wrong if the algorithm doesn't have enough repeats in it, which is not the case with this little beauty. The room, hall, church, spring, and plate are about what you would expect except that they are a lot smoother than what I was expecting in this price bracket. The tone knob functions just like it should and when you roll it off it actually cuts the right frequencies, giving the guitar plenty of room to breathe while still adding a nice ambiance. I only mention this because so often with VST reverb plug-ins the tone knob often mucks up the sound and doesn't do anything for clarity. This one cleans up really nicely. The decay knob goes from an almost nothing room verb into quite lengthy decays, longer than I was honestly expecting. I don't personally play with super long decays but it's nice to have the flexibility. All that said, it does its job very well. The spring setting doesn't have that "drippy" sound that you get with real spring reverbs, but that's not what I was after anyway with this thing and it is, after all, a mini pedal. Where things get interesting are the mod and darksea settings. The mod verb is something of a chorused verb, but if you roll the decay time all the way back it's almost, almost, straight modulation. Just some interesting versatility I wasn't expecting. The darksea is described in the manual to "Produce a reverb effect with deep, gloomy decay." There are a couple of things going on here. First, and this is a little hard to tell, but the pedal generates a sub-octave that becomes really apparent as you approach the 12th fret. What's confusing to me is how well it tracks, as it doesn't seem to have any problem with multiple notes like you would get on a VCF type tracking system. There is also a continual high range filter sweep that is pretty much independent of any of the controls, but you can roll it back with the E level knob. It adds a little interest when applied in moderation. The only other effect I've had that compares was my old Line 6 Flextone III on the filter sweep delay setting, but this is a little more subtle and usable. And as with the mod setting, if you roll the decay time back you get out of reverb territory and into straight tone, although there is still a little tail that hangs on. I should add that the build quality is very good. It's a metal mini case like you would expect, not cheap plastic. The knobs feel good compared to other budget brands I have compared. The added tail function is a nice feature, although it's not something you're going to be switching back and forth does help to get you closer to what your personal preference is. And I can't help but add a "He has the box!" reference if you're into that sort of thing, but the box is actually quite nice as well, complete with a snapping magnet cover. All in all, if you need a reverb pedal in a mini format, this is a very solid option, especially at this price. Would verb again.

This unit replaced a MXR Custom Comp and the improvement was immediately noticeable. The tone and dynamics are now very professional sounding, finally matching the sounds I’ve been chasing from a compressor. For its price (around $39) it punches WAY above its price-class.

Excellent tape reverb effect pedal for the price or in general. Very worth it with quality sound. If you dont have the money to buy a Roland or Boss from hundreds to thousands of dollars...thus is great and make my hollandaise other guitars sound like old time tape reverb. I was prepared to be very disappointed as usual..but wasn't. Putting it in line with your standard amp or pedal reverb ...awesome. Very happy with it.

I love compressors, especially DBX rack compressors, and I leave them on all the time when I’m playing, but I use compressors and limiters very subtly and more to thicken the tone and get a slight bounce in the feel of the string. This is not a transparent sounding pedal in my opinion, it thickens the sound of the instrument but in a way that appeals to me. On my pedalboard I use the 18V Maxon which is an actual DBX 160 in a pedal. I was hoping this LAX would be an inexpensive alternative. For jazz and finger style, this pedal really excels with a warm fat sound. The bright switch I find a bit obnoxious. I don’t mean to single this pedal out in that respect because I find all compressors that have a bright switch tend to destroy the tone. This is extremely quiet and has a lot of usable settings and definitely thickens and adds body to the signal of the instrument along with the bounce. It would deliver as much squish as you could want if that is your thing. I generally like to leave a compressor on all the time when I play so I don’t set it to be too squishy. Boss has made a few “limiter pedals” and they are pretty equivalent to what this sounds and feels like., a nice sonic edition, but not necessarily transparentlike the Maxon or a rack compressor. With the discount this pedal comes in at a little over $40, which is a huge value for the quality. The pedal looks classy and has that raw aluminum casing look that Ehx pedals have and it has a nice silk screen graphic on the face. I think this is a keeper, but if you’re not really familiar with compressors, you may have an issue understanding this and how to use it at first. As another reviewer mentioned it is questionable whether this is a peak limit, more than a compressor. I recommend it and I have tried expensive ones and cheap ones (probably 30 over the years). This goes toe to toe and then some with most compressor pedals and has a bit more girth than most of them which I really like. It’s also extremely quiet, which is not always the case with compressor pedals. I would use this first in the signal chain (before drives). Nicely done.

If you expect to achieve the authentic Dumbel sound from a pedal, your expectations are out of line with reality. However, that said, I have been playing guitar for more than a half century and while I play clean finger style most of the time, I also enjoy and have owned many overdrive pedals. The Donner Dumbal over drive is one of and possibly the best I have ever owned Including an original Ibanez 808 tube screamer, Love Amp 11 and Double Durple all of which are excellent pedals. I generally like a transparent overdrive to provide a signal boost and more body and headroom to the guitar tone. This pedal provides superb control that ranges from nearly transparent to rough and dirty as hell. The Donner Dumbal is a great pedal at a reasonable price I highly recommend. I may buy one or two more, for my 2 amp guitar rig and for my bass rig as well.

Pretty terrible compressor tbh. Don't know what I was expecting at this price point.

Non è il più economico sul mercato ma uno dei migliori come qualità-prezzo! Permette di regolare la soglia fino a livelli mostruosi, particolarmente adatto per settaggi hi-gain che spesso hanno alta potenza ma un po' di ronzio! Ha inoltre una funzione per silenziare SIA i pickup SIA il loop di effettistica il tutto in un doppio circuito isolato, il che è ottimo perché non serve diventare scemi a trovare la posizione migliore per il pedale! Inoltre sul gate si può agire in ogni fase di apertura e chiusura! Davvero un pedale ben fatto, rapido, efficace e silenzioso (a volte i gate fanno rumore, questo è davvero silenzioso!) Ben fatto! Acquisto molto soddisfacente!

Il pedale è ben fatto e resistente, rispetto al modello normale la modalità studio è stata sostituita da quella darksea che di fatto somiglia molto a un octaver e rende questo tipo di suono molto utilizzabile e divertente. Tutti i suoni sono di qualità e non suonano finti, non influenzando mai la pasta del suono. Lo switch se tenuto premuto può attivare o disattivare la coda del riverbero. I tipi di riverbero sono tutti di livello e ben utilizzabili, anche lo spring che solitamente in molti pedali non somiglia all’effetto del riverbero a molla di un ampli qui è tra i migliori suoni del pedale. Infine la modalità mod riesce a tirare fuori un’inaspettata modulazione del riverbero utilizzabile tranquillamente come un chorus dal suono molto preciso. Per il prezzo, la resa sonora e la versatilità non ci sono dubbi che questo pedale possa trovare posto in ogni pedaliera senza troppi problemi.
