Still using at 7mo -- I have two and use with a blanket as a breastfeeding/nursing cover! (space saver!)
update May 2016 - my son is now almost 7 months old. I used this clip so much I bought a second. I use it exactly as I intended to - as a nursing and pump cover. It works awesome and is adjustable. Not 100% perfect like a nursing cover promises to be, but a heck of a lot cheaper and more convenient IMO!--- original post Dec 2015 ---I have an untraditional use for this - as a nursing cover. My diaper bag always has a blanket, so I just stuck this clip in and viola, now I always have a nursing cover --- and saved $30 and the bulk of carrying yet something else. It may not offer 100% perfect coverage, but it keeps the blanket from falling off, I still have easy access, and I always have clean blankets. Win-win to me!

OK if you can't make your own, but has some issues.
OK, it works, but you could do the same thing with a string & a couple of binder clips. The cord is plaited plastic lanyard cording & quite stiff, resulting in some difficulty getting it to stay in place & lie there comfortably.

An Unexpected Bonus
My husband had a stroke, and his dominant hand is paralyzed, so he definitely needs a large napkin. I had been buying king size pillowcases in dark colors or prints from thrift stores, instead of getting the more expensive fabricated clothing protectors. I used bag clips I already had to attach the pillowcase to his clothing. But on a whim, I decided to try this item out.Sometimes I would fumble the bag clips and drop one on the floor. The napkin clip is only one piece, so I figured it might save me fishing around under the table or the wheelchair for the dropped clip. But even better, it turns out that my husband can now attach his own napkin, so this is perfect for someone who has the use of only one hand.

Works very well for most situations
I got this clip because I was so tired of trying to clean stains off clothing. Today's blended fabrics are great for some things but almost impossible to clean if you get olive oil or coffee or just about anything on them, especially if you can't wash them immediately. I just don't care anymore if people think it's funny as I just don't want to spend anymore time treating and soaking blouses or giving away the only top I have that matches a certain skirt. This clip is a very functional solution to this problem.Pros:*Adjustable*Compact (easily fits in purse)*Can use with napkins provided by restaurantCons:*Only one: Not sure if this is a con but some paper napkins are so thin they just tear away from the clip at the slightest movement. Solution: Keep a sturdy cloth napkin in car or purse if you know you're going to a restaurant that has cheap, thin napkins.Suggestion to manufacturer: Try selling a waterproof clear "napkin" that has grommets that can be used with the clip.

Work very well for the intended purpose!
thses clips have worked really well for us so far! We have been able to go to a restaurant and use anything from a paper napkin to a cloth one and convert it to a bib for our 2.5 year old and she doesn't fight it like she used to with the silicone types that catch food in them. So much less bulky to carry than the whole bib like we used to:)Only wish they made them with kids in mind meaning cuter looking with colors/characters!

Easy to use napkin clips
These clips are very easy to use, having easy springs and wide "tabs" for arthritic fingers to press (unlike the alligator clips that we had tried to use). The springs are strong enough to hold a terrycloth hand towel securely as a coverall bib, and the clips are easy to position and the lanyard length adjusts readily with the pinch-to-release cord restraint. The only issue that I have with them is that the tiny wire loop (that attaches each clip to the lanyard) can open up if you pull too hard on the lanyard and the clip is caught in the towel/napkin; but I have small needle-nose pliers to bend it back.

Handy little Gadget
This is a very handy little gadget. You can clip a napkin or dish towel around your neck and protect your clothing from stains when eating. I purchased it mainly for summer lunches when I put home grown sliced tomato on our cold cut sandwiches. No matter how hard I try, the tomato ends up on my shirt, requiring me to change and pretreat the stain for laundry day.It is more economical than buying adult bibs, or making your own bibs, which I am also going to do when I have more time. You can customize the length of this napkin clip, which makes it useful for anybody. A couple of things that would make it better would be if the metal clips had teeth on the end to prevent the napkin from slipping out of the clip, and if the clip was a little tighter. I have not used it yet, so I don't know if those would even be problems, though. This is a very economical solution to a problem that plagued me every day.

The story of a clip, napkin, and a dry cleaning company.
This fall did it. No more sloppy shirts. I send dress shirts to the cleaners practically every single day. The dry cleaning bill got so high that i decided to try these clips. They worked wonderfully. My shirts stay cleaner longer than ever, and i saved money for a vacation. Sadly, the dry cleaning company went out of business.
