The description is accurate... 8 x 6.5 x 3.25 in. It can be awkward for larger hands. I bought this without realizing the size and returned it to buy the only I really wanted (signature version, I think).

Taking the chain off will cause stress to the hinges, which might cause damage to the hinges. Most likely not, but it is a risk.
