A Paraplegic Review!
I have to give a review from an independent T-7 Complete paraplegic perspective. My biggest concern before buying this Hinged Elevated Toilet Seat was the hinge itself. How stable would it be? I read plenty of reviews but none of them addressed this issue. Most reviews were how they were purchased for an elderly parent. A person who might have trouble standing or getting back up from a low toilet due to hip, knee or other reasons. That was sitting down and getting back up. That is not my case! As a 20+ year severed spinal cord paraplegic I cannot stand at all. I do independently transfer from my wheelchair to the toilet and then from the toilet and either back to my chair or most often to my shower transfer bench. My worry is that when I transfer, I often use the seat to lift and position myself for the transfer and sometimes push off for the transfer. And I am 205 lbs. How stable is the hinge? I love the idea of it hinged for cleaning purpose but would strong and how long will it last using it as a paraplegic? Well, I can tell you - it is fantastic!!!! I have had it several months and it has been as strong as the first day I installed it! It is a stable and strong hinge. Mine is an elongated toilet seat and I am very satisfied with this Ableware Hinged Elevated Toilet Seat. I would also like to give a tip to others users that are about my weight. I have a cushioned toilet seat. I take off the two risers on the underside of the seat. In previous elevated seats those risers quickly wear down the Elevated Seat causing it to crack and depression right where the risers sit on the Elevated Seat. So when I got this Ableware Hinged Elevated Toilet Seat, I took those risers off the underside of my cushioned toilet seat. It leaves two holes where the risers were. I cover them with duct tape. It works fine laying flat on top of the Elevated Toilet Seat and does not cause the wear and tear. Every couple of months I replace the duct tape over the holes but it saves the life of the Elevated Toilet Seat! Overall, I highly recommend this Ableware Hinged Elevated Elongated Toilet Seat!

Not every toilet seat is going to work right out of the box with the hardware supplied. My seat had a half wing nut with a collar that goes upward into the porcelain hole, I guess for added protection so I thought it would be a good idea to try to use. It wasn't strong enough for the long distance of the supplied bolts. So a trip to Ace was needed to get two big fender washers for the seat because the supplied bolts went right through the hinges, I also got nylon wing nuts and lock washers to use with the supplied metal wing nuts. I had my son snug it up tight. And this elevated toilet seat works like a charm. I had foot surgery and can't walk for awhile. I might keep this on after I recover because of the ease of use and decent aesthetics.

Relief to bad knees, Stains won't clean off
Perfect in every way except stains quickly from urine and I cannot find a way to remove stains. Looks dirty because of it.

Very useful item to help with recovery after surgery!
In July I missed the last two steps coming down our stairs at home and broke several bones in my left foot. I was looking at some papers and not paying attention. I have had eight weeks of non-weight bearing recovery since surgery in addition to the two weeks non-weight bearing prior to the surgery. My right leg was really taking a beating and it was getting more difficult to keep using it to raise myself back up when sitting. I ordered this to alleviate some of the pressure when pulling myself up. It has been wonderful. I highly recommend this elevated toilet seat. Plus it can be raised up off the main toilet in order to clean everything more thoroughly. It has made a great difference and taken some of the pressure off my right leg.

This seat was amazingly simple to install
My husband is 6'2" and he has a very difficult time sitting and standing even from a "comfort height" toilet seat. This seat was amazingly simple to install. It took me less than five minutes to remove the existing seat place this one and then replace the original seat over this one. The slats allowed the holes to line up without difficulty. It has been in place now for over a month, it is easy to clean, and the metal bolts do not loosen up the way the plastic ones did on the original seat. My husband is very happy with the additional inches and I am also happy with the ease of cleaning because it is hinged and I don't have to remove it like the previous elevated seats we have purchase. Thank you for this great design.

I love it when things work as advertised.
Bad hip has gotten worse and created need for elevated seat. I am a big fella, 6', 315 and was concerned about finding a product that would support the weight. This one fit the bill and has been a perfect assistant. The hole size is large and the seat fit well with both, commode and existing seat. I also added a Bidet attachment between the riser and existing seat. That too fit great and everything was easily installed. The seat is easy to clean and seems very durable so far. It has been a real asset for me. The reviews posted were very helpful and appreciated.

Good product. Hard to clean.
The back is completely open. Dirt and debris can find it's way inside. Gross! Otherwise, it would have been the perfect product.

that they help so much after surgery, that we kept them for 7 yrs. after surgery
These Maddack toilet risers have been just such great addition to myself for 4 major type surgeries in 4 years! They made it so I could go to the restroom by myself and get up and down off the toilet. I had both hips replaced, and spine surgery, and breast cancer surgery. To add to the mix I got C-diff too. We had a grab bar put in next to the toilet too. Now my husband found out how great they helped him with his hernia's surgery. We have had them for years, but I bought some to replace these, as after years the cleaning products has a slight ability to dingy the white. But I used clorex daily during c-diff. They are so helpful we will always use them. I am a tall and chubby gal, and never a problem or wiggle to them.
