The Dangerous Gift (Wings of Fire, Book 14): Volume 14

Good

I loved this book. Possibly one of my most favourite of the series thus far! I was uncertain at first as I was worried it would take on a completely different storyline to the arc it's set in but it instead told the continuation of the arc with a brilliant perspective and a general Christmas Carol sort of feel.Snowfall is the main character and perspective to this book and, for those unaware, the current Icewing Queen. She's inexperienced in her role and clearly terrified that she'll fail herself, her deceased mother and her kingdom so she decides to resort to magical means to protect herself.As expected, it doesn't go too well but I'll stop the explaining there less I spoil anything.Snowfall had such a beautiful character arc from closed-off, angry and terrified to a fit ruler and philanthropist. Even from in the beginnings when she finds herself disliking the magic she's been cursed with to later on accepting her circumstances, I think this might be my favourite character of the series.Anyhow, in short, this was an unexpectedly enjoyable read and I really was blown away by how much I actually ended up enjoying it.

The book arrived in perfect condition and was packaged well. As for the story itself, the protagonist was very annoying at the start of the book. She did get a little bit more bearable near the end but she's my least favourite wings of fire protagonist since she was so paranoid and unnecessarily mean. The events that happened around her were a very interesting read, and the insight into the history of other important characters near the end of the book were also quite an entertaining read. Overall I'll give it four stars. It's not the best in the series in my opinion, but it still holds up as an alright read.

My 13 years old son is huge fan of "Wings of fire". Although he just finished book 4 or 5th he wants to collect them all and already is waiting for book 15th. That was his Christmas gift which surprised him a lot
