Disappointing change in quality for a formerly superior product
I have used Rico Royal reeds for as long as they have been made. The change to D'Addario @ Co has apparently resulted in a far inferior product. Out of 10 reeds I managed to rescue 4 that will be good enough for a gig. 3 went into the trash and 3 are left as "fair". I have been playing sax for the best part of 60 years and am fully knowledgeable about how to dress a reed for maximum quality sound. This first box is a true disappointment and if I had not already attempted to play them I would return them. I will seek another brand in the future. Sorry Rico, this was a bad decision.

Very good to very bad
I have been playing Royals for more than 25 years. In a box of ten I get about six that I can use. When I get a good one, it is very good in both the lower and upper range. I can tell before I put the reed on that it will be good or not so good - The thickness of the reed as well as the shape of the heart of the reed - A good reed may last me for five or six gigs. This is much better than other reeds I have played.

#4's On the weak side
These reeds are weaker than the #4 Rico Royals that I normally use. I am in the process of clipping and shaving to get a heavier stem and hoping that I will be able to use them in the future. If you like a reed on the weaker side(very thin edge) then these will probably work for you. I do a lot of high tones and need the bite....soft reeds don't do it for me.

the BEST.
These are MY reed of choice. Even before the fact that these are the best priced reeds on the market. But, before I came to that conclusion, that these reeds are the best for me. First, I got a good reed file. I think it was $30, I dunno, it was a gift. But to make for an excellent reed, there can be NO air leakage between the reed and the mouthpiece. And even though, these reed say they are, filed. It is not good enough. That work was done on some assembly line somewhere. It is NOT acceptable, to me.

Great!
These reeds are great for anyone looking to buy strength 3.0 reeds! Once you get them slightly used, they make beautiful sound and aren’t awkward to use. I’d recommend them to people who have somewhat experience in saxophone and want cleaner, crisper notes, not beginners. Pretty good value for amazing reeds!

I had used the old Rico Royals with the decals on the reeds maybe 20 years ago. I had been using RSJ ever since, but recently bought a 3-pack of the RR to try with a different mouthpiece. In the process of playing the reeds on different mouthpieces on different necks, I realized that I was really liking the new Rico Royals very much. So, they are now my reed of choice.

Not as good as previous Ricos
Quality has suffered since I started buying this brand. What actually ships is a different brand that are 50/50% in terms of quality.

Good quality product and a more economical multipack.
Good quality product and a more economical multipack. Although you can buy in greater quantity this has been a good way for a beginner to try out a variety of different tenor saxophone reeds as recommended. 3 reeds in individual plastic casings to keep them in good condition. They are lasting well and I have liked all the Rico reeds I've tried. Quickly despatched and great service from the seller.

Dependable Rico Royals
These reeds are very uniform and play straight from the box. However like all natural reeds they DO Vary. Out of the box of 10, 4 look great, 4 look Ok and 2 look like they should not be in there. I have tried many reeds and it is always the same, sometimes even more poor ones. Someone commented that with reeds it should be "Buy one get one free" a great thought but I doubt it will ever happen.

Should Be Cheaper.
First reed out of box was unplayable, second reed was perfect, but this goes for any brand of reed. Reeds should be a lot cheaper considering the 20% to 40% rejection rate. The high price of average quality reeds does not in any way help students. Buying a box of 10 can workout cheaper, and allows for rejection.

Not too many good straight out of the box but when they are they're great, a bit of adjustment with the rest and there you go. I use them with a Morgan Fry Andy Sheppard autograph something or the other mouthpiece in a 10 on a Paul Mauriat unlaquered Tenor . Massive sound I tells ya...
