Complete Lyric Pieces for Piano (Dover Classical Piano Music)

Great format, good quality printing
I really like the formatting and clarity of this edition of the Lyric Pieces. It's very easy to read, and includes useful editing elements. There is ample space between staves to write in my own notations, like fingering, etc. The volume seems to lay flatter than most on the piano's music rack, although I still use a book on each side to hold it open. It is printed on good quality paper, and is well bound, so I expect it will outlast me!

Great book of pleasing music!
This Dover edition is a great buy at the list price already, but Amazon's price is just ludicrously cheap! The binding has held together perfectly so far, and does for the most part stay flat. In the book's extremities, however, it does need a little bit of help to stay open and lay flat when you first buy it. The printing is clear, dark, and easy to read, as well as not too densely packed on the page. Reprinted from older C.F. Peters editions, the engravings etc. seem accurate and reputable.Grieg's Lyric Pieces are pleasant, varied, and not very difficult to learn. If you seek a book of piano music from which you can pick pieces at random to read for pleasure, this is it!As noted on the back cover, Grieg's harmonies here are interesting and late-Romantic, sometimes anticipating the music of Debussy and Ravel, et al. The melodies are charming and often memorable as well. Each piece functions on its own and as a member of its specific opus numbered set. Also, the entire cycle of pieces works as a whole. I like how the last piece is a reflection on and a re-imagining of the first.Overall, there's just about something for everyone interested in piano music in this volume.Note: coming back to my review, I kind of feel bad about using the term "salon music" in the original title! I feel that Grieg put a lot of genuine emotion into these utterly delightful mood pieces, and the more I play them the more I get out of them. I'm still loving it months after purchase, the book is still in nearly perfect condition, and I plan to play from it for the rest of my life. You can enjoy it too, it's worth the modest investment.

Featured in Netflix' series Babylon Berlin
Not long before his assassination in Babylon Berlin, Councillor Benda works on the first piece from this book on his home piano...both lyric and haunting.

Complete Lyric Pieces by Grieg
These are all of Grieg's compositions known as Lyric Pieces. These expressive works range from program music representing various scenes, to Norwegian songs and dances. Most of these pieces are on an Advanced level, with a few that can be classified as Late Intermediate. The book is a good edition, and an excellent price for the complete opus.

an unbelievable bargain
For four dollars, I can't think of a better bargain in all of classical sheet music. The quality of the folio is outstanding - nicely printed pages with a sewn binding! As a professional pianist, I usually only buy urtext editions, but the Henle editions (the only urtext I could find) are broken up by opus number, meaning I'd have to buy ten books instead of one that costs four dollars (I want to emphasize that point). Plus since these are the originals as published by Edition Peters when Grieg was alive, they are, in a sense, urtext. If you have any interest in Grieg's Lyric Pieces (and every pianist should, really), buy this right now. It's all there. FOR FOUR DOLLARS! Did I mention this is an outstanding deal? I'm listening to March of the Trolls right now, and I'm so happy I now have the sheet music for it, plus Arietta, Butterfly, and all the other wonderful piano music Grieg wrote for this series. I'm adding it up...I would have spent over $100 to get all the Henle editions. Don't delay. I have a feeling it won't be this cheap forever.

Great music in good form
Many little known pieces by Grieg. A beautifully printed presentation.

Definitely a good buy
I had my doubts about buying this book at $3.99 and I don't typically put too much stock in a Dover publication. But this complete edition of the Grieg Lyric Pieces is a great unabridged republication of the 1989 edition. The notes and bars are clearly readable and well spaced. Although they do say that this book has a "lay flay sewn-binding" it really doesn't lay flat. I recommend having Kinko's cut the binding off and put a coil binding on it--that's what I do for all of my music books; works great.

Grieg Complete Lyric Pieces
These is a fantastic book and great value as the whole set of lyric pieces are here. They are an essential part of any serious pianists library and contain some very unique and beautiful piano miniatures. This set of pieces show what a poetic pianist Grieg was and why he came to be known as the 'Chopin of the north'.Some of the lyric pieces such as 'Butterfly', 'March of the Trolls' and 'Wedding Day at Troldhaugen' are among his best known pieces and like Chopin he was obviously more comfortable with the piano miniature rather than more large scale works. Most of the pieces are quite short and of intermediate level i.e about a Grade 5. They are set in chronological order and the later lyric pieces tend to be longer and more complex, the last set were written in 1901 and you can hear that Grieg has explored new harmonic worlds in his later pieces. This edition is very well laid out although somewhat condensed so you may find some awkward page turns in the longer pieces. Even though this is slightly annoying I still highly recommend the Dover publications as they are such great value.

Perfect at first glance.
Received yesterday, it seems to be a bargain compared to all other editions. Price is unbelievable and quality is really fine. I feared something could be wrong because of the big dimension (more than 200 pages) But there should be not: cover is soft and you can put it on the reader easily; Unless I don't discover bugs or mistakes in it at first glance there is a big attention to particulars and all sort of indications.

Page super thin
Quality not as expected. See how thin the pages are? Makes it very difficult to read sometimes.
