Master Your Tennis Game: 50 Mental Strategies and Tactics

Not worth the money or time
This book was simplistic and provided no substantial coaching or direction for tennis. The author seemed overly self important regarding his own skill set and had an incredibly biased commentary on historical players. The best example of his lack of understanding of the history of the players is his summary of the legacy of Billie Jean King (see page 138).

She won't give it back..
One of my daughters has recently taken up tennis and I ordered this with the intention of letting her borrow it but now I can't get it back yet to read it myself so the review was from her experience with the book." It's a great book and I learned a bunch of new things that I am going to use on the court the next time I play. It's easy to understand and it is gonna help me nail my opponents.".So there you have it, it's a good book with some great lessons & tips. 4 stars.*If this review helped you make an informed choice about this product in any way I would appreciate it if you take a moment of your time and let me know by hitting the Helpful button and letting me know. I appreciate that you took the time to read my review, Thank you!*

Misses the Mark
My wife started playing tennis about 6 years ago in her mid 40's and has been playing several days a week lately. She's gotten fairly serious in recent years and has moved up to 3.0 and 3.5 level play. This review is based on her comments after reading the book:First thing I noticed is that it is a fast read, and doesn't go very deep into useful mental strategies. Most of the advice and instruction is fairly basic, but then in a few places, it jumps to much more advanced advice. It is light on the deeper mental strategies, and instead throws in some really basic match prep suggestions like bringing two racquets. The end result is that this becomes more of a broad overview on how to play tennis matches but never goes any deeper into mental strategies for the game. Which of course is what you would expect when reading a book with "Mental Strategies" as part of the title. It's very difficult to tell who this was written for, as many suggestions are really basic match prep 101, but then in a few places, it covers things that a beginner would not be ready for. For example, packing energy bars or checking directions to the venue would be pretty basic stuff, so basic that most players shouldn't even need to be told these things. But sizing up an opponent during warm-up is a tactic that is more useful for a seasoned player than a beginner. Is it worth $12? No. But it isn't a bad quick-read to pick up a few reminders on some basic strategies if you're looking to build a little mental confidence. However, if you're looking to come away from it with some great advanced strategies to really up your game, this isn't the book.

Very Helpful Tennis Book
I'm female and play a lot of tennis, singles and doubles. I'm not a high-ranking player, only a 3.5 but I used be a 2.0 so I am improving more every year. I am passionate about the game and frequently play singles matches against opponents less that half my age (61) and win about half the time. I lost last night in a tough singles match, but she was a better player and my game improved because of it. I'm always looking for more knowledge and any edge I can get, to get the advantage on my opponents. I can still run fast and chase balls, but I need to think about other tennis tactics when that ability begins to fade. This book is loaded with tons of tennis insight, knowledge and practical advice that should be taken to heart if you really want to become the best tennis player you can be. Tennis is just as much a mental game as it is physical game and it's both that I need help in. This book has given me a great deal of things to think about and work on and I will be talking about some of them with my tennis coach. It's written in an easy to read/understand way, and is small enough to fit in my tennis bag. I strongly suggest it for those wanting improvement in their game. Pros might not get as much out of it but I bet there is something in it they didn't know. I won't delve into the chapters because you can use the, "Look Inside" function and see that for yourself. Though I am a female tennis player, this book is pretty much gender neutral with advice that both sexes can use.
