Awesome DIY project: mechanical skills and creativity in music
This is one of the nicest purchase that we have done for the children recently. It engaged the children for a good three hours. The step-by-step, illustrated guide book that comes with the product has clear instructions for assembling the xylophone. The book has a few suggested music and their corresponding position for the pegs. Someone who understands music can alter the peg positions and create their own music. We have created and recorded several music for some common nursery rhymes and even Brahm's Lullaby. We will be happy to share them with others if anyone is interested. I have other Smartivity products. I am impressed with their quality, the efforts and thoughts that goes into creating them. Thank you is the least I can say to the creators.

Disappointed
We bought as a gift. After a few weeks of construction, the rubber bands disintegrated, we replaced with spares, but this continued until the item could not be used. Great fun project, but ruined by the fact the bands were poor quality.

Great Educational Craft!
This appears to be a great educational craft. Pieces are well made and well organized. Instructions are detailed, understandable, and very colorful. The concept is exceptional. It appears to be a great challenge to put together but I believe a sharp child or sharp adult can master the assembly without any problem. I've looked the product over and am well pleased with all I've observed. I confess it's not put together yet because I'm waiting on my grandson to return from a trip so that we can assemble the craft together as a Grandfather/Grandson project. I'm looking forward to getting started and hope to do a second updated review when the project is completed. I think it will turn out well.

Overall worth it.
It was fascinating to sit with the child and help him put the puzzle together. It took around one hour. Well-spent valuable timeAfter a single use, the rubber bands lose their quality. The plucks are quite difficult to mount. There are too many sharp flashes surrounding the plucks, these flashes can cut the fingers. kids require assistance mounting these plucks.
