Maybe the best purchase EVER
This was an amazing purchase and it shipped surprisingly fast! I was apprehensive buying a shakuhachi in this price range I half expected it to have some aesthetic flaws or something but nope! Let me start with the bags. This product comes with a thickly woven, beautiful carrying sleeve shown in the pictures and stated in the description. Its a great little bag, well made and beautiful too! What I didn't expect was the thinner inner sleeve that it came with too; a cheaper-looking, thin nylon bag that may not be necessary but I actually really appreciate having it since it's thin, tightly woven nylon fabric is far less likely to ever catch on and damage any part of the flute than the thicker bag making it the perfect inner sleeve for holding the flute. I use both for protection. As for the Shakuhachi itself I was looking for one that has the inner enamel like coating down the shaft to protect the bamboo from breath moisture over time, one with a Kinko style mouthpiece to protect from damage wearing down over time with moisture and just life, one made from madake bamboo (ideally grown at high elevation), and one made from the root end of the stock of bamboo still containing the traditional aesthetic of a sanded down root. One last thing i was looking for (making this nearly impossible) was for that Shakuhachi to be less than 300$. This listing seemed too good to be true but I'm so happy with this purchase! It checked off all my boxes and is beautiful!!!- very straight shaft all the way until the root end curves slightly (I preferred this look)- dense and weighty bamboo body- very well constructed(One "flaw" I suppose is that mine has two of the sanded root ends that were maybe dead before it was cut so they are kind of hollow and it's bark is sort of shredded so it's not perfectly solid in those two very small and structurally insignificant spots. It's a supremely miniscule and purely aesthetic flaw which is only noticeable under scrutiny so I'll gladly accept it. I just wanted to point it out because it's the only negative I could think of and it's really not even significant)I have 0 regrets buying this flute and absolutely recommend it for anyone looking for a Shakuhachi either to learn, broaden their musical instrument collection, celebrate their love of Japan and it's rich culture, or in my case, all of the above!Happy playing!
