College of Piping Highland Bagpipe Tutor Part 1 Book (Green Book)

This primer revision is a very good instructional and understandable tutor for the person who wants to learn the Great Highland bagpipes. The author puts all lessons in simplistic language where even the beginning novice can make headway. The CD gives me the exact rhythm, note-for-note, and even some "how to not play the notes". It also has several video helps that will come in handy when I make it to the covered material. I am enjoying practicing with my chanter now more than ever. The revision takes out some of the, shall we say, archaic wording and adds new material that gives an understandable reading to the lessons - along with new sponsorship advertisements. I have already begun learning my first song too. The Bagpipe Tutor has helped me be very optimistic about being able to fulfill one of my longtime dreams, that is, playing the Great Highland bagpipes.EthnicSounds.com has a lot of great merchandise at a very good price. I perused their website and they are one of the best priced sites for a lot of bagpipe, accessories and other Scot, Irish merchandise. I received my book/CD sooner than the expected date and it was in great condition - the book wasn't bent, broken, wet and the CD wasn't damaged. ***** (5-stars).

I'm a "side" drummer (snare drummer) for a pipe band drummer, and wanted to see about learning to play the pipes. This book "the Green book" is the best one to have and is VERY inclusive.I've used it as I practiced on my new chanter a bit, and enjoyed the "strait forward" approach to learning that this book offers. AND when you decided to take lessons from a piping instructor they're ALL familiar with it, and can teach from it.I'm giving this book 10 stars!!

I like this book because it has a great reputation of being one of the premier learners for piping. It is the standard book for my band and I totally trust their recommendation. I haven't gotten very far in the book but the CD adds so much to make the learning experience easier. A "must" for beginners.

My son wanted to learn the bagpipes - or rather the chanter - because many of his school friends play it; the school has a renowned pipe band. We tried getting him lessons at school, but it didn't work out. I got this for him for his birthday, and he has enjoyed learning by himself (he had some basic knowledge from a school workshop already, so it wasn't as if he was starting with no knowledge at all).

Got to really want to learn to follow!

This book is what is being used by the class that I have begun attending. I find the book good. There are not as many practice scales as the first book my wife bought for my anniversary. There are snippets of songs which the first book did not have.

Nicely written. I do have other tutor books as well but if your like me, you search for everything that you can learn, then this book goes into your library.

This is the book you use to learn the bagpipes. I don't think more needs to be said. This book and a quality practice chanter are the only things you need for the first year.

Well written and easy to follow. The audio and video segments on the CD were very helpful. I particularly enjoyed the binding of the book. The rings allow the book to lay flat whilst reading/playing with no worries that the pages will close like you would have with a traditional stiff binding.

There's not much to say about this. It's been the standard for beginner pipers since forever. There are accompanying videos available on Youtube for the lessons. A great book.

Purchased as a reference guide for myself. It has come in very useful over the past year.
