Shows How Relevant the Bible Is For the Whole Family
I bought this book in 1998 when our youngest children (of five) where aged 3 and 5. This was one of their favorite books - now our oldest children are having children and I picked up this book to read again to my two grandchildren (and counting). Our family knows about this book because it contains stories starting with A-Z and has a Bible verse starting with a new letter of the alpha bet for each story. My wife and I would read the stories to our kids - oftentimes on the way to school, or at the dinner table - and then we would all quiz one another, "What's the `A' verse, or what's the `d' verse. There are several benefits to reading this book and discussing it with your children:1. You get to learn 26 verses that delineate great truths about the Gospel, Christ, and godly values.2. You and your children get to memorize 26 verses of the Bible.3. The verses are made practical in each story - so your children get to learn how applicable and relevant the Bible is to their own young lives.4. The gospel is taught, explained, and calls for a response in this book. All of our children have made a profession of faith in Christ, and it is very possible that the seeds planted from this book contributed to their salvation.5. The stories are excellent for kids - it worked out really well for our kids because it always involved a boy and girl (and we had a boy and girl) that were curious to see who the hero of each story was.6. There are good discussion questions for each story and it lends itself well to prayer and a personal response time of repentance, or encouragement.7. Susan Hunt is not only a good children's writer, but a very good theologian - she weaves the story line together with Biblical Theology in such a way that the book is not moralistic, but Christ Centered and gospel driven.8. Having all the verses start with a letter of the alphabet is a brilliant mnemonic device that we still use even with our children today at the ages of 15 and 17. As a matter of fact - probably not a month goes by where one of us in the family doesn't quiz each other on the "A-Z" verses. Sometimes we can even recall the story that went with the verse.Since 1998 I've probably bought twenty of these books to give away to parents and at baby dedications in our church. I highly recommend it. I believe that my wife and I have benefited as much (maybe more) than our kids have. Now we are excited to read this book again and again to our grandkids. I highly recommend it for parents of young children, for grandparents, and for Sunday school teachers.

Fantastic for Bible Devotional and Verse Memory!
I started using this book with my daughter shortly after she turned 3-years-old. And even at her young age, she was able to learn and memorize these verses with patient coaching. We averaged about one verse a day, depending on how long it took her to master the verse. It usually took about 20-min to cover a lesson. It has been a fantastic tool to help her hide God's word in her heart, and the verses and accompanying stories are presented in a way so that children can see how God's Word can be applied in their young lives. It has also given my daughter a healthy view of who God is. I have also found that by teaching her these verses, I have been able to help remind her in a loving way of the behavior God expects from her when she needs correction. So the scripture memory has been useful for discipline purposes too. I also appreciate that at the end of the story, there are a few questions pertaining to the particular verse for the kids to answer. So in that regard, this can also be treated as a young child's first bible devotional. Spending time teaching my daughter these verses has also helped us to bond. These bible verses have also on many occasions ministered and challenged me as well. It's a great way to start the day!"So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth;it shall not return to me void, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it." - Isaiah 55:11

Kids love it!
This is our second copy of this book. We lost our first in a fire. The stories are a little cheesy, but kids love them! They really bring the point home so the kids remember the verses. Great book!

Storing God's Word in your heart
We've been memorizing a new verse each week as we homeschool. I have a 5-year-old and a 2-year-old and both of them love the short stories in it. It also brings up opportunity for lots of questions about what it means to have good character. Memorizing these verses with my babies have also been extremely beneficial to me. You can never go wrong with storing God's word in your heart whether you're young or old. It is a wonderful baby shower or birthday gift.

Everything we hoped for and more
My wife and I got this book for Christmas to help teach Scripture to our three children, ages 3-6. We are starting out at one verse per week; so far just A and B. The kids love it, remember it, and are trying to apply it. The text helps greatly with memory and application. With developmental level differing so much among them, it can be hard to find a teaching book that all three can grasp and enjoy. The biggest surprise is that the 3-year old is as involved as the 6-year old. We also love Ginger Plowman's book "Don't Make Me Count to Three...," and I think this book (ABC Bible Verses) has helped us put feet on her ideas more than anything else. Right now, if I could give one set of parenting books to Christian parents of young children, it would be: 1. Shepherding a Child's Heart (Tripp) for the principle of internal change; 2. Don't Make Me Count to Three (Plowman) for how to apply Scripture; and 3. this book, ABC Bible Verses, for helping one do that. Of course these and other books should always be read critically and with reference to all of Scripture; no author is perfect, and any advice can be distorted or used as an excuse for self-centered or abusive parenting.
