Believe it or not my last purchase of the Sony Xperia Z back in 2013 was still serving me well enough as my main phone, a testament to the quality and longevity of these devices. However still running Android 4.4 Kitkat and having almost zero space left was taking its toll on the phone's ability to do basic tasks. After reading a bit and seeing that Sony's newest flagship had brought back the 3.5mm audio jack, continued with the simple pared back android interface (which I'd always appreciated) and had ample storage and speed capabilities - I decided to just buy the Xperia 1 ii outright. It arrived the next day and I also got the official Sony case, a good screen protector from Panzerglass, and a 256GB SD card. I suppose after 7 years with the same phone, any modern smart device of almost any cost would have felt impressive and an upgrade, but I wanted to again purchase quality with the idea of longevity in mind. I'm thoroughly impressed with the tall and narrow build, it's easy and pleasant to hold. The display is something else - even coming from the 1080p display of the Xperia Z. The loudspeakers are a great volume, I've been using them a lot for talk radio, the supplied headphones are great for private listening too, bluetooth works well for any external devices like speakers. The charger is a USB C to USB C type, so if you want to connect it to a computer for data transfer you will need to purchase a cable for that. The charging is very fast (again, anything would be after a 7 year old phone), the first 50% from 0 takes 30 minutes. 10% in around 3 minutes if you really need something quick. I utilise the battery save function to prolong the life of it. All in all very intuitive and easy to use phone, but I've only ever had android so I don't have much to compare it to. I'm not a big camera person but of course the images to me look fantastic and video recording is beautiful to watch back. I'm also not much of a gamer but anything I have played, or videos I've watched are just a delight on the screen with the 21:9 aspect ratio. I really wanted something built to last, with exceptional performance and reliability, and I feel that's what I've got. To another 7 years.... Perhaps :D

Believe the hype. Its an Amazing Sony Xperia phone. Fast, camera is stunning, selfie quality is good. I heard negative reviews on selfie cam but I'm happy with it. Front camera quality is better than xz3 model. Sound quality is the best Sony Xperia sound I've heard. Its a tall phone, slim, and comfortable. I know price is steep but its worth it. It will last for years.

Before i write what think about this think some reviewers, review this phone and they don't know how to even work it,then give it a bad review. Now what i think. Screen, this 4K screen is without doubt the best on a phone at this present time and watching 4K in21.9 is truly breathtaking for a phone screen. Fingerprint scanner hear so much about this being not that accurate and having to keep registering for it to work, ive registered two fingerprints one from each hand, one for when you pick up with one hand and register with the fore finger on your other hand, the other when i pick up with the left hand and register with the fore finger as it naturally holds the phone and I've had this phone three weeks now and its never missed one register. Snapdragon 865 chipset on this is probably the fastest at loading than any other phone out now. Battery could be better, but i had no problems with getting through a day and still juice left after a solid six hours screen use. Sound, this is where Sony Excel Dolby Atmos is a pleasure with great balance through each speaker when playing music through them volume could be slightly higher but still loud enough. But connect with the mx3000 or 4000 earphones and WOW your in a different world ,one word ,fantastic. Camera now Sony Excel in the mirrowless camera department, but for some reason they've never got it right in their mobiles for one reason or another, but at last they've got their alfa division expertise into this cameras software, and when in the pro camera mode its like you have one of their alfa cameras in your hands with all the controls to get the perfect photo, thats if you know how to work a proper camera. Cinema Pro is exactly the same except you shoot in 21.9 with all the settings of Sonys Pro cinemas costing thousands of pounds and some of the footage you get with this phone is remarkable. There is the usual camera app where you can let the phone do the work for you,but i get more enjoyment from manual adjustments. The look and feel of this phone is different from any phone out now but it fells so natural in your hand and handles like a smaller phone, with split screen and using two apps together is so handy. All in all this is the best all round phone of 2020 without doubt.

I really like the build quality of this phone, its ergonomics, processing speed, fantastic screen, sound quality and excellent camera system. It's also great to have an audio jack again, so I don't have to fiddle around with an adapter. It doesn't come with a lot of bloated apps like other manufacturers stuff on their phones, but I was disappointed to find a number of bundled apps installed, including: Call of Duty, Facebook, LinkedIn, Netflix, Prime Video and Tidal Music; none of which I will ever use. The worst one was Call of Duty which, when the phone ran its first app updates, promptly downloaded 2GB of data! The problem is these apps have all been made 'system' apps, so they can't easily be uninstalled. Fortunately, you can disable them and delete the data they have stored. Having the fingerprint sensor in the power switch is a novel feature. However it often struggles to recognise my fingerprints (despite careful cleaning). It seems to be rather critical on alignment for me. I have tried re-running the setup with my fingers at different angles to the phone and managed to get it to perform a bit better, but it's still only recognises my prints in about half the attempts. Another feature of the phone is 'side sense'. However I like to use a flip type case and this prevents the side sense sensors from working. Playing music through the phone's speakers or headphones is excellent. However, when I paired the phone with my car (Toyota) via bluetooth, I found that playing music from the phone through the car's entertainment system was very, very quiet. In fact it was virtually inaudible at the normal volume settings. I had to turn up the phone's media setting to max and increase the car's volume setting to 3 times its normal level to get an acceptable sound level. Of course, when I then switched the car's system to a different sound source it was far, far too loud. Both of my previous phones had given a more consistent sound level with the same car, without needing to adjust the volume settings.

this phone is at the top at everything. everybody reviews this phone for the cameras, again is at the top of camera phones. i can tell you its gob smacking what it can do . but i would beg you to try the phone for what it was made for as well, the android system works very well on this phone, and i dont like android , i prefer ios, or linux which is coming on nicely now. i own a iphone 11 which is very nice, does everything well. but i have to say the sony walks all over it for speed, and the cameras give a more sharper rendition to the pics, and if you work at the controls , you will get stunning results. working the apps is so much faster, and so much faster to return to the desktop, or where you were working on. no matter where you are, just flick back from the right hand side and you will go back, back, back, instead of finding the arrows on each page to do this. my iphone 11 cannot do this. and the app response times are instant, no lag at all. i have bad eyes for close up reading, say the news and on the iphone 11 i cant read the news without glasses. but on the xperia although slightly narrower, i can just. that 4k screen is wonderful . by now you guessed i like the xperia better. correct. i doubt that the iphone 12 will have much over the sony in speed at least. if you dont like iphones, you will not be disappointed .
