Excellent Performance on my week long road trip.
I was going to buy one of the high tech coolers and started with YouTube review videos. I ran across a video that showed this cooler winning a multi day challenge with 5-6 other $200+ coolers. I don’t mind paying for quality products but why waste money? I decided to give this cooler a try. I packed it with 2 12 packs of soda, 1 solid block of ice from the grocery store, and 2 1 gallon milk jugs of frozen water. I headed out for a week long trip to Wyoming on a Wednesday morning. I arrived at my destination on Friday afternoon (Yellowstone and other detours along the way). The block of ice was at 75%, the milk jugs were at 25-30% and the soda was ice cold. The cooler was riding in the back of my pickup with canopy the whole time, and I had it covered the entire time with a painters drop cloth (to conceal it and other stuff in there). Weather ranged in the 70’s to low 80’s during the days but it was getting down to the 40’s at night. I left Casper for my 21 hour drive home On Monday (5 days had elapsed), the block was at 30-40%, the milk jugs were re-frozen the night before and returned to the cooler. I arrived home Tuesday afternoon. To my surprise, there was still a 3/4” thick chunk of the block ice in there. The cans of soda that remained were ice cold. One note, I did dump the water (from the melted ice) out of the cooler each morning. In summary, for my kind of use, this cooler is more than adequate and it fulfilled every expectation I had. I’m sure there are scenarios were the $300 coolers would beat this one, and in those scenarios I would have no problem buying and using that kind of cooler. But for every day use and road trips, boating, etc. where you’re not relying on your cooler to keep things frozen or cold for a week with minimal ice, I just don’t see how you can beat this cooler.

Held ice for a four day camping trip
After a few years camping with older coolers that I had to keep replenishing ice with I looked into a new cooler and chose this one. I recently went on two camping trips, the first three days in late August and the second four days in early September. The first I lost a good chunk of ice right off but realized it was because my cooler was slightly ajar in the trunk - my fault. The second I had about 80% of the ice I started with Thursday around 10am by Sunday when I returned home around noon. This holds quite a bit of food - gallon each of milk and orange juice, gallon freezer bag of macaroni salad and several sides as well as some beer with enough ice to keep everything safely cold. The only drawback I found is the size and weight when full. It’s very easy to get into the car when empty and fill up. I drive a hatchback and put it in the very back so I could just access that way to fill. Both times using it I had to ask for a hand.

Worth the buy.
Good product for the money. For what I paid for it, I can’t complain at all. I tested it by putting one large bag of gas station ice in it, and left it out on my porch (partial shade, partial sun) for the past 3 days.. it’s been 90 every day. I checked every 12 hours or so and opened it multiple times in between just to simulate actual use.At 12 hours, ice hadn’t melted at all.At 24 hours, ice had melted slightly. At 36 hours, 3/4 ice left.At 48 hours, about half was left.I took this pic at about 60 hours.. as you can see, two chunks of ice still exist..At 72 hours all ice is melted. Still very cold water.I feel confident in saying that if it hadn’t been 90 degrees out, the ice would have lasted longer. The cooler was in the sun for the first half of the day (til about 12-1pm ish). Also the more ice, the better the results as well. I tend to agree with the 3-5 day claim the manufacturer makes. For $50ish, you can’t go wrong. I’ll be using this at camp this weekend and will update my review if I have different results. Great product, worth the buy.
