Deciduous Blend Bonsai Soil - Tinyroots Organic Bonsai Dirt Formulated for Japanese Maple, Hornbean, Elm and Other Deciduous Bonsai Trees, 4 Quarts

Quality ingredients in this soil and my plants can tell! I will use it again in the near future.

I found this type of substrate easy to use. I have used it as the primary substrate for some container trees and mixed with other products (such as the All-Purpose Blend by same company) for other trees. So far my trees (deciduous species including Elm, Maple, Ash and Mulberry) seem to be doing well. This soil blend drains well and looks attractive as well with sort of orange and beige tones. There's a clear color difference between wet and dry which helps identify when plants may need watering. I've also noticed that the mosses I use around some of my trees also do well over this soil blend.

I have several bonsai and kokedama projects going strong right now. One particular species, the velvet mesquite being the most finicky, seems to really like the deciduous mix from Tiny Roots. I picked the wrong time of year for transplant in the first place, but they rebounded very nicely. I also threw a few handfuls into the kokedama mix, and have had a great response in a short amount of time. My only suggestion is to shift the dust out or rinse it thoroughly before use. That is not due to any fault on the manufacturer, just the nature of the mix to be a bit dusty.

This mix made it possible for my tiny red maple that was found growing in hard clay to be planted in a medium that will allow it to mature into a bonsai my grandkids will inherit

I have a relatively young Chinese Elm that lost all its leaves after a particularly rainy stretch; it had been planted by its seller in what appeared basically to be potting soil with a little bit of sand in it. I repotted the tree in the Deciduous Blend Bonsai Tree Soil about 2 weeks ago, and all the elm's leaves are coming back, so at this point I'm quite pleased. I only wish it weren't so expensive!
