Amazing camera backpack for the outdoor enthusiast
This pack is amazing and well thought out. I am using it for wildlife and outdoor photography. I have added two pairs of Shimoda's utility straps. It holds my Nikon DSLR with a large Nikon 200-500 mm zoom, a couple of smaller zoom lenses and a makro lens, flash, batteries and charger, and still has lots of extra room for extra gear. I attach my Sirui outdoor tripod with gimble to the side. The material is essentially water proof (I have not done an immersion test yet) and rain/snow proof. An extra rain cover would only be needed if stuff is attached to the outside of the pack to protect it from rain and snow, or if you want high visibility with neon type colors. The carrying straps and hip belt combined with the padding on the back make it comfortable to carry a heavy load. This back pack is amazing and well worth the price.

Not as comfortable as they say.
Maybe it's just me, but I tried every imaginable configuration with torso adjustments, weight distribution inside the bag (I carry about 30 pounds of gear) but always felt some nagging soreness or pain. Mostly in neck and shoulder. Yes I'm well versed on adjusting to have hips carry most of the load and positioning the hip belt to do so. I come from a Lowepro 550 which fit me like a dream, felt like part of my body, and with all the same exact gear inside. The problem with the X70 to me seemed to be that the shoulder strap attachments were too close together, left me fidgeting constantly to keep them away from my neck. Had the extra padded straps BTW. Another annoyance to me was laying bag on ground, as it's designed, and having to access the top compartment for a snack, gear, clothing, whatever, etc. means having to zip up main compartment and lifting up bag, as the easy access opening is on "bottom" side of bag. If you're a wildlife cameraman this is not good if you are trying to maintain stealth, as it lends itself to undo noise and movement (zipper noise, jostling bag around). Main reason I wanted to upgrade from my Lowepro was for extra storage on top and having a bag to lay down without shoulder straps on dirty, wet ground. A shame the Shimoda is just not working for me. It does seem to be well made and durable and hold plenty of gear. I have recently purchased a Creative Summit 40L Tenzing bag which suits me much, much better especially in comfort and can hold all the gear I had in the X70. Hope this helps someone.

Great Built
I have other camera back packs and this is by far the most comfortable. If you are looking for a large back pack that can hold a ton of gear and is comfortable then in my opinion the Shimoda Action X70 is the way to go.
