Henschel Aussie Mesh Breezer Hat - Packable Sun Protection for Outdoor Activities. Ideal for Hiking, Fishing & Camping. (US, Alpha, X-Large, Earth)

Just received this hat yesterday (thanks Amazon Prime for free 2-day shipping).CONSTRUCTION / MATERIALS: This hat appears to be very well made. The two-piece crown has black cloth tape wrapping the inside seam so if your head happens to bump it it's not scratchy. The back seam does not, but it lays flat and didn't seem to be a problem. All the stitching seems good. The brim, being made of a stitched layer of both the solid material underneath and the mesh topside, is pretty rigid; it flexes but seems to return to shape. The mesh sides crush but also seem to return to shape; repeated crushing might eventually cause rippling. The crown comes with a nice, moderate dent on top, and due to the crown's construction, it seems like it will hold this shape.STYLE: I wanted a ventilated hat that offers more shade from the sun than a ball cap, yet doesn't look like a floppy gardening hat, and this fits the bill. Resembling a fedora, it's more stylish than most casual hats but not overly dressy. The leather chinstrap with wooden bead gives it a western touch without being a full-on cowboy hat. You won't really be able to shape this hat with your own pinches, dents, brim curls, etc., but why would you want to... it's already a nice shape, and probably the best shape for doing its job of keeping the sun off your face, neck and ears.VENTILATION: The mesh lets in plenty of air; I can feel a breeze through it even just walking through the house. The sweatband was comfortable but felt a little warm, so any sweating from wearing this hat would be caused there.COLOR: The "Earth" color is a nice medium brown just like the photo (at least on my screen); pretty neutral, not chocolate brown but also not orangey or reddish. Due to the color variations in the canvas weave of the top / band / brim edging, I can see this hat matching a variety of medium-brown-shaded clothing well. The solid top and mesh sides of the crown match color with each other probably better than the picture shows. Some of the other color choices for this hat almost made it look two-toned, and I didn't want that. The reason for the apparent shade variation between the two pieces is probably more due to the fact that the holes in the mesh make the side look darker, while the solid top piece reflects more light. To test, I put a piece of white paper behind the mesh; the mesh and canvas looked almost identical in color. Can't say for the other color options, but Earth's materials are close enough to not be an obnoxious contrast.SIZING: This is my only regret, but unless you order hats with true hat sizes it's always going to be a guess. I ordered the XL based on Henschel's size comparison chart. I measured my head circumference at 23-1/2". Maybe I measured at the wrong spot or angle, or maybe Henschel's sizes vary from hat to hat, but this one is snug on me. I can wear it, but all-day wear might be uncomfortable. If it relaxes after some wearing, I'll be OK; but if it shrinks even a bit, I'm in trouble. I probably measured my head wrong, because a 7-3/4 usually fits comfortably if not a little loose. I think I'll reorder as an XXL, and put some narrow padding behind the sweatband. Find a chart that compares circumference with hat sizes alongside S/M/L sizes to get a good idea.OTHER: The bead seems to hold its place, but I'd definitely put a knot in the chinstrap below the bead to avoid losing it.OVERALL: This is a great casual hat that provides excellent ventilation and good shade from the sun. Measure your head carefully; if you're between sizes, go up.

Love this hat! It's sturdy and well made, and I love that there's a size chart so you can measure your head and get the correct size. (I have an enormous head and women's hats never fit me, but the men's xl of this hat is perfect for my huge noggin!) Lightweight, keeps the sun off my face, very practical chinstrap for windy days made of nice leather (the rest of the hat is mesh and cotton for breathability). I'm using it primarily as a gardening sunhat, but it would work great for fishing, camping, really anything you want to do outdoors in the sunshine. I love that's it's crushable and packable but easily pops back into shape without getting bent up or anything. I am 100% satisfied with this purchase and I think it looks rather dapper too.

I have this hat in 3 colors and 3 different brim widths (5 total). It's a fantastic hat to stay cool and stylish in the warmer months. It's pretty much true to size with a little variation due to tolerances for manufacturing. If a little snug, get it wet and put a hat stretcher in. But this variation with the 3 inch brim gets the most compliments and is my 1st choice. Highly recommend it, made in the USA and of high quality.

Didn't fit my husband. Had to send it back. The next size down was to small. Had to buy a different brand of hat for him. This is a very good looking hat, great color, and well made. My husband really liked the look of the hat, but it just didn't work out.

Bought this hat to use on a cruise to the Caribbean, therefore, had to pack in luggage. As some suggested on another site, place sock, underwear, inside of hat when packing. Did as they suggested and it came out of luggage perfect! Used the hat while in the tropics, great hat for blocking sun, and hat seemed to keep sun off of face, neck, ears. Vents help to disperse heat and when a breeze passes by, great cooling affect. Hat's head band helped to keep sweat from dripping on face. Purchased a large size and fits perfect, and used the sizing chart on Henschel web page to size. Great product, five stars!

It's a nice hat. It feels very well made.I have a pretty normal sized head at 22.75, which should put me in a large according to the size chart. However, the large was tiny and sat on top of my crown like a clown hat. Exchanged for an XL, which slid down over my eyes. Beware, these are not well sized.

Surprisingly well made. Hats of lesser quality cost more. I ordered a large for my oversized brain housing group and found it a little tight. I wetted the sweatband and gently pulled on the brim and now it's snug but not uncomfortable. I think after a few weeks of regular wear it'll fit like a glove. Snug fit is good on a windy day on the beach or tooling around in my kayak trying to get away from the alligators. Also this hat looks damn sharp, too!

It takes alot for me to overpraise something let alone praise something but I shopped through at least 60 hats and I am SO HAPPY I FOUND THIS PERFECT GOLF HAT FOR ME! Possibly the most important thing compared to other straws that have "no give" in size, I have a big head(7 5/8-3/4??...most XL's are tight) and was happy to see they offered XXL but I read a review that this runs slightly large so I got the XL AND IT IS PERFECT. The hat is MUCH sturdier than I thought and the brim is the perfect size for sun protection and NOT blocking my view when addressing the golf ball. GREAT color too. At first i thought it was overpriced and saw others a couple dollars cheaper but after putting this on, i would have paid more...This purchase made my day!
