Better Than Expected
Going into learning Korean I had a bit of an upper hand by already knowing some Japanese. Korean and English are so different, which makes it a little complicated, but let me tell you, I am having soooo much fun! I am glad that I found these books! Would definitely recommend this book. It's even better if you get the workbook too! It really helps to remember everything!

Definitely need to learn Hangul before reading
So I have some bias, because this book is exactly what I was looking for. If you're like me, you spent some time learning hangul on your own, but trying to find any other resource for learning Korean is hard. I've tried apps, videos, websites, nothing really clicked with me.This book was the answer to my problems. Right away the book starts teaching you phrases and the context behind each word. It offers good explanations in an easy to understand way, I've learned more Korean in the one week of having this book than the few months I've spent rummaging the internet for resources. That being said, I can't ignore that this book isn't technically good for beginners. Knowing how to read Hangul is highly recommended if you pick up this book, but that's easy enough to do on your own. Giving it four stars because the information is extremely valuable, but you do need a little bit of knowledge before walking into this book.

Almost level one
I am just over halfway done with this book and It has been great so far! Although it will not teach you how to read/write in Hangul. I didn’t expect it too but you should do that first and then this book will make much more sense and have greater application. Before starting any textbook work, I worked through to section 2 unit 10 of duolingo. Because of what I learned on duolingo I was able to read and write comfortably. So far there have been no grammar concepts I haven’t seen before as well as very few words I haven’t studied before. I have loved the simple conversations and multiple examples of the concepts. After finishing the textbook the first time independently I plan to go through with the audio. As well as practice writing and speaking my own sentences with the grammar from each chapter. This textbook gave me a greater push to formulate and speak sentences on my own. And have confidence doing so. I love the conversational approach. If you find this textbook not beginner enough work through duolingo and you will soon be comfortable with it!

Best System Out There for Learning Korean, by Far
Talk to Me in Korean (TTMIK) is, by far, the best system available for learning Korean. Yes, as with any language, you have to do comprehensive work--reading, listening, writing answers, journaling words that are hard to remember, etc., but TTMIK makes it very easy to manage all of that because their books and website basically set up a structure for you. Just follow the books and lessons, and you'll be on your way.The only components I added are a blank vocabulary journal that I bought on Amazon for $4.99. I use it to repeatedly write out words I'm struggling with. I also make sure to listen to Korean from other sources: I watch KBS World on TV because their shows often include Korean captions highlighting different elements of a program, so it reinforces the Hangul that I'm learning with TTMIK. It also helps build skills. I listen to Korean music (not just K-Pop). Videos on YouTube often include Korean captions for the lyrics, and I've learned words and heard other pronunciations that way. And I have returned to my favorite K-Dramas, BUT, now I watch with the KOREAN captions since I already know the plot. I have learned so many words that way, but the anchor is TTMIK. In fact, I love it when someone in a K-Drama says something the way TTMIK says people say things. For example, the official way to say something may be one way, but people will drop syllables, while still using polite language. I can totally hear it now!Korean will be my fourth language. Other than my native English, I learned two other languages fairly easily, but I was struggling to find a good system for learning Korean. I couldn't find a program with the proper structure that I know is needed to learn a language until I started TTMIK. I'm good to go, now, learning more every day.I highly recommend this program for learning Korean.5 STARS.
