Excellent heater for garage
This heater puts out a ton of heat and is very simple to use. I would caution anyone buying this to keep the instructions manual and follow it very carefully, however all use and maintenance procedures are very simple. This thing works extremely well to heat my detached garage that is about 1,000 square feet. Used it the other night and it heated my entire garage from 40F to over 70F in about two hours.

Alternate heat source…CHECK
I purchased this kerosene heater because I did not have an alternate heat source when my power goes out. I’ve had this brand before and needed a new one. (SIMPLY FOLLOW ALL THE DIRECTIONS.)

Weak Manual Shut off Lever - Company backs up Warranty
As others have mentioned, the manual shut off lever is made of some type of plastic and is easy to break. The part that needs to be replaced is the OS-CVK31 Tipover Switch. However, if you go to the site, the CV-23K is not listed as one of the options and I could not find the same part listed for another lantern-there is no option for even ordering a replacement part. I registered my product and received a warranty number, but also received an email error for the registration. I sent email to [email protected], but that was returned with a "mailbox quote exceeded" error. I attempted calling 877-438-4328 but on trying several options, was unable to access anything other than full mailbox errors. The heater is still functional and I do not want to go through the hassle of returning the product. I also lodged a complaint with the Better Business Bureau at their Cleveland (25975 Emery Rd Ste B) address. The Sengoku business listed there has the same telephone # and website address listed on the manual. I'll give it a few weeks and see what happens. I'll update if the company ever responds.1/20/2015 When I realized yesterday was MLK holiday, I resent the email - "Mailbox quota exceeded". I then called and this time was able to reach a real person. I was told I could not be sent a spare part because they have no spare parts. Sengoku offered to send a complete replacement lantern if I would fax a receipt. I will do this, report back, and modify rating appropriately. Meanwhile I'll change the title from "Do not purchase - NO Warranty Support" to Warranty support pending. I have also withdrawn my complaint from the BBB.1/23/2015 A completely new Kerosene lantern appeared on my doorstep today. I'm changing my title again to "Weak Manual Shut off Lever - Company backs up Warranty" and have boosted the rating to 4 stars. Other versions of this lantern appear to have a metal shut off lever, though that may have been changed to keep it from overheating and burning users. The large empty space below the lever encourages one to push hard, though only a very slight down pressure is needed to trigger the lantern off. If you are gentle with this switch, you should have no trouble. I am mystified as to why the company does not just remove the Tipover Switch (~$10.50 retail) to replace broken ones and then simply reconstruct the lantern for future sale when the part becomes available.

Great helper during the winter season.
This heater is our winter savior! It doesn't just heat the room, but does it in a much faster manner, thus creating nice and comfortable leaving environment when it's most needed. We usually use this heater in order to boost up the heating procedure and, once the temperature has been reached the desirable level, we turn it off. That helps to save the level of oxygen in the room, to save the fuel and the electricity. Another good feature of this heater is that it moves the excess moisture form the leaving space. We leave near the ocean and, in winter time, severe fogs, strong winds and ocean mist get "into the bones". The heater makes the room warm and cozy. The wick should be serviced regularly, according to instruction. It really helps maintaining the flow of the flame - and the life of the filter itself. Some people comment on the kerosene odour, and it's, indeed, evident during the refilling and at the moments of igniting-warming-up and of the extinguishing the heater. But sometimes some regular cooking brings more fume than this device does. And it, as well as the smell of the kerosene, goes away with a brief room ventilation. I personally do not find the smell of the kerosene much offensive. It's, of course, my personal opinion. Once it's heated, there hardly any smell at all. The same goes with the intervals of no usage: the canister is quite well isolated. The electronic ignition works well only with the fresh, new wick. Otherwise the spark eventually stops reaching the wick. I have expected that form the start and found that, even after proper wick adjustment, the ignition isn't as reliable as with the new one. But igniting the heater with the match is no hassle at all.

Very nice heater but……
Overall I really like this heater so far. It was easy to put together and is easy to use.The con is the outrigger looking things you are supposed to install. They are very much a tripping hazard. I don’t know if there is a law saying that these heaters have to have them but they were more hazardous then what they seem to protect you from.

OK but cheaply designed and built
Item packed great. Lousy instructions for assembling, also found the hardware cheap. Screws stripped out on the brackets that hold the wire safety cage to the heater. The 2 "C" Chinese made batteries were dead on arrival. The unit lit correctly 1 time, after that the glow plug is not working properly. All in all it produces good heat. I use it in a garage. I also am using the manual lighting method by using a long reach BIC BBQ lighter. To get the heater started you have to be pretty flexible and able to either sit on the floor or bend over to get too the controls. I am still looking for a new glow plug but cannot find one. I do not recommend this product unless you are up to playing with it. I do not recommend this for any senior citizens.
