This has tremendously helped my Sasha, a 21 lb., 8yr old shih tzu with acid reflux and improved her quality of life. Dry kibble is notorious for causing acid reflux in some dogs so I have always moistened her kibble and added lil mashed veggies to it. But because of schedules sometimes she would have to go 13hr between meals..My lil furgirl sometimes would not eat breakfast, sometimes she would just sit there and stare at her bowl of food... I would add chicken and tempt her to eat and sometimes it worked.. Then she started to skip meals and paw at her mouth and if she did eat she would burp and lick lips about 3hrs to 4hrs after eating and as this progressed she started to have belly aches and occasional breathing issues along with these episodes:( I had thought it was because she was getting older. But when this progressed to the burping, belly aches and breathing problems I was worried and immediately took her to my Vet...My old country Vet, the kind who really cares about pets and not just making money by shooting pets up with medicines and yrly HARMFUL and UNNECESSARY vaccines and that has been our farm vet for over 40yrs and he said it was because of acid reflux. Because her stomach was building up to much acid from being empty and the acid was irritating her stomach, hence not wanting to eat and upset stomach, and the acid was basically eating away at her esophagus, hence pawing at mouth and breathing problems and that this condition is very painful....OMG.I was so sad. He said to moisten her kibble, i do and then he said we would try this best and Simple fix first, which is .25 mg of pepcid per pound, 2 times a day, 12 hrs apart, at least 1 hr before or 1hr after meals.. He said it has to be at least 1 hr so the pepcid has time to be fully absorbed absent of food in the stomach. My vet said most people usually give it 1hr before food, but 1 hr after would be okay to. All in all he said the time of day does not really matter, BUT just make sure i give the pepcid as close to twelve hrs apart as possible and to not skip doses as this will get her stomach acid under control and give her esophagus and stomach time to heal from the acid burning she experienced..He said to give this course of Pepcid to her for 6 weeks to heal the acid damage, but that it greatly benefits some dogs to remain on pepcid for rest of their life's and that my Sasha is probably one of those girls ;) ... He said of all the meds to treat acid reflux in dogs this is the safest, cheapest and most wildly available over the counter and has next to no side effects, while the benefits are drastic. My vet said it is also VERY hard to overdose a pet on this... Sasha is 21lbs, she gets 5mgs, which is 1/2 of this 10 mg pill, 2 time a day, 12 hrs apart 45 to 60 mins before meals. And OMG, the drastic and positive changes in my furgirl after the first 1st doses is almost unbelievable! She started to eat right after the first dose and no longer rabidly devours her food like she is trying to put out a acid fire in her belly. She no longer has upset belly or burps or licks lips 3 hrs after eating and no more breathing problems caused by acid burning her esophagus..I had no idea about all the positive life changing benefits of this OTC medicine to some ....I now buy and use these 10 mg pills because they are easier to split in half than the 20mgs were to cut in quarters. ;) Thank you Pepcid, thank you.

I have been using Pepcid AC for my cat for over a year. I give him 1/4 tablet twice a day and combined with some other meds and supplements he has been nearly symptom free for about a year. He is also on a low dose of prednisone to keep the inflammation down but we have tried to reduce the Pepcid dosage a few times and systems of vomiting always come back so I know it is working.DescriptionPepcid AC Regular Strength are small squarish pills that have a pink coating on them. They contain 10 mg of Famotidine each. This is the lowest dosage for Pepcid in a generic or non-generic formula. I have tried to find a lower dose pill for my cat to avoid cutting pills but this one is the lowest out there. I prefer the name brand Pepcid rather than generic Famotidine because the generic tablets seem to crumble more when they are cut.The 90 tablet size comes in a small bottle(no child proof cap) which I find easier to deal with than the little blister packs. I prepare my cats medicine four weeks at a time so if I had to remove all those pills from the foil packs it would take a lot longer. The other thing that is great about the 90 pill bottle is that it saves lots of money! The 90 pill bottle is only about $15, and a pack of 30 in blister packs cost about $10. The smaller packaging is probably fine if you only use this occasionally but if you are using it regularly then the larger package saves money.How well it worksPepcid AC is designed to reduce acid in the stomach. While we have recently used it for our cat, I have also given it to my daughter when she used to get stomach upsets(she is grown now and still uses it herself). I like using Famotidine as opposed to stronger drugs because it seems safe and has never caused any side effects for the pets or humans in my family. For my cat, obviously he can not tell me how he is feeling. I know when he has a good appetite and is not throwing up that he is feeling well. He has been doing extremely well since we started Pepcid AC and throws up more when I try to reduce the dose.While the dosage for Cats is 2.5mg up to twice a day, for humans the dose is between 10-20 mgs twice a day. Pepcid makes a stronger pill that has 20 mg but my daughter was always helped by just one 10mg tablet.
