Great product so far
This is a great replacement catalyst for my Vermont casting encore. Seems to be better quality than original and I would recommend it to anyone that has a catalyst wood stove

Waiting to see how it holds up!
So far very good! This is the first winter with that I have used the all metal catalyst. It does seem to plug up faster, but hopefully it will last longer.

Lasted on 4 months
Total junk. My original one that came with wood stove lasted 4 years. This is what the one i bought from this seller looked like after just 4 months. Seller told me to contact Mid West via email but email did not work. Do not buy from this seller.

Works Amazing, No more smoke belching or whuffing in Vermont Castings!!! Finally.
Say goodbye to the smoke belching, back puffing and whuffing in the Vermont Castings. I was skeptical because I've lived smoke belching for so long. This catalyst with a lower light-off temp solved the issue. Even, clean burning through all phases. THANKS.

This combuster is metal rather than ceramic
We just cleaned the chimney getting ready for the upcoming winter. When I vacuumed out the fireplace and the combustion chamber the catalyst still was in great shape after one full season. This is being used in a Defiant Vermont Casting. We burn pretty much 24/7 and use 6 cords of seasoned oak in a season. We went through a ceramic one every year, got tired of buying a new one every year.

Undecided
Original review: Original ceramic catalyst worked okay but broke into small pieces- only lasted two years. Finicky- too cool it wouldn’t generate; too hot was probably it’s “Waterloo”. I’m hoping this steel honeycomb will solve the problem and be worth the extra money. Rephrase- None of these are worth what they charge but that’s not why I gave four stars. I can’t give five stars until I know I can get 3 or 4 years out of it. But it’s good so far- I’m happy.15 month (heating season and a half) update: Metal honeycomb still intact but falling apart. Metal frame is melted/distorted badly. Still works but no clue how much of the “precious metals” are left- Doesn’t seem to be as efficient though. I have no problem with the seller but at this point I’m not certain if I’ll just go back to ceramic- not because it’s better but if the metal one doesn’t last longer what’s the point of spending the extra money? And yes, in spite of the lower price here than Vermont Castings asks, these things are still way overpriced- IMO. Well- regardless- it’s still better than being “hostage” to Vermont Castings. 😮😀

Second time is the charm
I bought a ceramic catalytic combustor from Midwest in 2021. It was cracked when I received it and they never answered my email. I needed another to use my stove this year, so I ordered the non-ceramic version. It has been holding up better. Disappointed with Midwest. They don't honor their warranties but had no choice to keep my Vermont Castings Stove going.

Product does not last
We have tried several of these, but the ceramic and the metal ones don't last a full season. Our stove is used 24hrs a day all winter. Maybe other people just use their stoves occasionally. We find this does not hold up for our usage.
