Pretty good read
Coming from someone (myself) that has experienced murder, death, starvation, extreme cold to near death, heat, filth, violence and well the shit storm of American poverty … I found him very weak but on the normal range of someone who grew up well off.He had a wonderful life but as I read on I saw him change. War opened his eyes to reality. The idiot public, to the uncaring citizens, to the why do I even do this for ppl that don’t care that hits us like a bus.The shock of how death and war doesn’t distinguish man, woman or child. How mentally you feel you will die from over exposure to the elements which isn’t uncommon … unlikely and uncomfortable never the lessMost ppl reading this will think wow you delt with all that I couldn’t imagine! Then there’s the rest of us thinking yeah dude been thereBeen there a lot your preaching to the choirNot just as military but as an Ironworker I’ve met with a lot of the sane grueling experiences. Including facing death almost daily.Grouping up in extreme poverty.Just saying … seeing murder is pretty much yesterdays news and no one caresIn our own countryIn our own cities and townsAmericans are killing each otherThere’s a war going on in homes with parents agains children and children against parents and it’s just as gruesome if not more soSo i suppose I’d like to finish by saying if you been there and experienced some of this you can relate. Somewhat triggeringBut keep reading because in the end. You’ll bond with the author like a brother.Thank you that is all

Real life military story spoken from the heart
This books is so well written, detailing a young Americans search for his meaning of life. As a military veteran who served overseas and in Desert Shield/Storm, I can appreciate the raw perspective and emotion you feel as you prepare for war. The comradery between friends working in unity to achieve the mission provides great insight to the greatest military rescue mission. Veterans will appreciate reading this book, and any Patriot who loves their country. Thank you Tony for your professional chiropractic healing on me, and your humbleness as we shared military stories.

More of a biography
Most of the book is spent from the author's point of view, the telling of his backstory and why exactly he became a Ranger. I think there half a chapter dedicated to the rescue of Luttrell and recovery of his SEAL recon teammates. It was still a really well-told life history. I'd recommend it.

History
I thought this book gave a great detailed description of the people involved story and the personal thoughts of a dangerous/deadly action without any glorification of war. Personal anecdotes, background information and as many details, that could be given, took you into the mindset of the soldiers involved.

Condensed version
I can't really pin it down, but knowing Bob Welch, look forward to his books, this well it was good, but I came away not really feeling good about this book and also not feeling bad about it. This is what I want to say, Read Author's note, it is the best I've have read, truthful, too the point.I'm not saying don't read the book, I'm just not in agreement with the reviews, and really feel the book is not complete. Mr. Brooks has written a book that his family would need to read, there are so many books on people's experience in war, this one just isn't one of the best.Bob Welch is very good at putting in words the story, but a story is only as good as the subject, and I feel they could have been more substance.

Great book, would make an amazing movie
Reading the book fills my mind with so much imagery it's like I'm watching a movie already made. All of the elements for a great movie are there. More importantly, anyone who wants to know what our military heroes go through on their journey to defend our country and then actually defending freedom will enjoy this book. We are only free because people like Tony give up so much, work so hard, and risk everything for our country. First and foremost "Leave No Man Behind" is an engaging story and entertaining to read. Not easy to achieve in a book about such a serious topic. I've always admired our military vets and thank them every chance I get, but my respect and gratitude went to a whole new level after reading this amazing book.
