GownTownWomens 1950s Vintage Retro Party Swing Pocket Rockabillty Stretchy Dress

First off, I hardly ever take the time to review things and I truly purchase from Amazon ALL the time. But I just have to comment on this dress because it was such a welcome, positive surprise. I’m always skeptical on sizing when I purchase clothes that are Made in China, which is very rare. In American sizing I wear a size 6...I’m 5’ 7+” tall and about 125-130 pounds. I knew that I was only going to wear this dress once for a 50’s party that I’m invited to so I wasn’t too worried about having a perfect fit...a little too big was much better than too small. (I didn’t want to have to return and reorder.) So, according to their included sizing chart, I ordered a Large. I probably could have gotten a Medium but I always have to be aware of the chest size. The Large fits about perfect on the top and I’m afraid the Medium would have been too snug in the bust area. However the fabric does stretch and give a bit. Speaking of the fabric, it is Very nice. Not the normal cheapy, ravely stuff I was expecting. All the seams are double stitched and finished, with an invisible zipper. The color I got says pink and it is a beautiful blush pink color, not like a light pink carnation color. (It’s mostly like the color in the middle photo.) I will be adding my own full, tulle slips underneath to finish the look. The back neck area looks adorable with the tied neckline and not too low in the back so my bra strap does not show. It does come pretty wrinkled but I’m assuming that my Steamer will remedy that problem. If not I will take it to the Dry Cleaners to press only. I noticed that the care instruction states: Hand Wash Only and Low Iron but like I said earlier, I’ll only be wearing it once. If they had anything else I was interested in I wouldn't hesitate to order from Gowntown again for I now know the quality in stitching and fabric, it provides. It also came Very quickly with my Amazon Prime...not the normal three week+ turn around when you order things from China.

I was not sure what to expect. Bought this dress for a church anniversary celebration and I love it!! The material is stretchy but definitely does not look cheap. Can be worn in any season. Great fit!! A total classic! I received so many compliments!

I bought the dress for a 50's inspired party we had but I also wanted to buy a dress that i can wear for other formal ocassions. This one fits the bill. It is not too costume-y. I liked the vibrant blue color of the dress and it is made of stretchy material so you have room to breath and is very forgiving. After reading ALL the reviews I decided to buy 1 size down. Normally I buy a large because i have wider shoulders but the testimonies made it seem that the fabric will stretch for me. And it did! The medium worked very well. Thank you other ladies for the very honest reviews. I also never ever write reviews but this purchase inspired me. I am 5'2, 21 shoulders, 39 bust, 34 waist. Since the bottom is a very room, the hips didn't matter. At the party, I got a lot of compliment from other ladies and I urged them to buy one too because i think it can fit many body shapes. It has a lot of swing and fun to dance around in. The ribbon at the back can also help adjust if a person has a more narrow shoulder. To add more volume to the dress, I wore it with a petticoat also from Amazon. Also, put a belt on to cover the seams. Hope this review can help someone make a decision. PS: I also bought two other dress designs from other companies here, but this particular one is the best fitting one.

***Update - I stretched the sleeves out on the end of the ironing board and ironed them. This made the sleeves looser and the whole thing lay better. My daughter wore it to her party and receive tons of compliments. I also noticed that the seam wasn't sewn properly in a couple of places. I'll probably just fix it myself.*** I ordered this dress for my 15 year old daughter. She loves it, I wish it fit a little better. We ordered the light blue and the color is very pretty. The material is very stretchy and she loves how soft and comfortable it is. It is light weight but not so thin that you can see through it. I'm worried about how it will look after washing, especially since it says to steam instead of iron. The fit is just okay. My daughter is a size smaller on top than on bottom and has smaller shoulders so I'm sure the fit has a lot to do with her shape. The sleeves are shorter than we expected and a pretty tight since she has large arms for her size but they are stretchy enough that it's okay. The main issue is that it is a little large through the shoulders and it is causing it to gape in front of the neck but she likes it well enough to overlook it. She is 5'4" and the dress comes a few inches below her knees. I put that the dress "fit as expected" because it was a little small in some places and a little large in others. If you are larger on bottom than top, don't size up unless you have fairly broad shoulders. If you have issues with clothes being too big in the shoulders, it will probably gape a little in the neck area. Overall, it is a very pretty dress especially for the price, she is just hard to fit. We ordered it for my daughter to wear to a themed party and she is very happy with it, so that is what matters! We might try different styles in this brand.

this dress fits in all the right places, i absolutely love it!! It is very stretchy, and goes with every curve you may have, i bought it for a costume party and i will be wearing it thought the year, i didn't feel suffocated wearing it, it was very breathable, and the pockets?! i didn't even know it had pockets before i put it on, it was a nice surprise, the color of the dress was a very pretty dusty blue, and compliments my complexion, very flattering, overall 10/10 definitely recommend

The stretchiness the color! The modest style!The only thing is.. I need to not put too many things in the pockets.. otherwise the seam dust open a bit.. with thorough use putting and pulling things out of pocket frequently. I love how I can customize it from spring-summer- autumn style with adding a belt , or a hat, or a under long sleeve and rounded collar to the dress.

Dress fitted perfectly. I’m usually an XS/8 or S/10 womens clothes in Australia so I ordered a size Small for this dress and it was perfect. According to the size guide provided in the image, I would have been a Medium, however, knowing I have never been a Medium I decided to trust my gut instincts (and Amazons recommendation) and I’m so glad I did. It’s a lovely dress!

Nice fabric and well tailored for an accurate fit

I love this dress! I'm very apprehensive about buying clothes online. But when this dress arrived and I tried it on, I loved it. Yes, it arrives stiff. But I really like the material. It's very well made. I ordered a petticoat, but you don't need it.I was afraid it would be too small, so I ordered two sizes up (3xl), thinking I would just take it in if it was too big. But if fits like it was made for me. I'm 5'7" around 200lbs. The girls are not very big (B cup, or small C).The colour and design is true to the photo.If you're on the fence, I'd say go ahead and purchase. You probably won't be disappointed.

it has a fabric part at the top that's underneath around the collar bone and it is folded so u can see the crease of it through the dress when u wear it sometimes and idk how to feel and it is very much a nipple piercing dress because they show through the thin fabric but i really do like it, pockets and it fits nice and i like the cut out on the back, the fabric texture might take some people a back but i wear a lot of dresses like this and i know sometimes it's just what u gotta do
