Savory Spice Grains of Paradise (2.8 oz) - Whole Alligator Pepper Seeds - Authentic Melegueta Pepper for Grinding, Finishing, and Cooking

Typical size for a spice container. Never having tried it before, we found it to have a nice flavor.

Peppery, citrusy, floral, strong flavored spice. A little goes a long way with using in a spice mix, there’s a tiny amount of stems/other plant material that isn’t the seeds themselves in the bottle also, but most of it is so lightweight that I’m pretty sure it’s negligible for the total weight labeled. I measure out what I’m going to use and then pour it out on a flat surface so I can pick out stems w/tweezers before adding into the rest of the spice mix I’m making for grinding.

I used the Grains of Paradise in the "Stormcloak seasoning" to make a cheddar potato soup. I have to say, this is more than a typical black pepper, and that was the best potato soup I have ever had (courtesy of the Elder Scrolls cookbook). Well worth the money for the experience! I have used it in several dishes now, and will definitely be keeping it in my pantry from now on.

Nice spice to use. Quality was worth the money.

Grains of paradise adds a wonderful, complex flavor to any savory dish. It tastes like a combination of several familiar spices, plus adds a woodiness to it. However, be aware that it's also hotter than black pepper. I used about twice as much as I should have the first time I used it; I was perfectly ok with how spicy the food was, but the rest of my family couldn't finish theirs because it was too spicy... but they all agreed it tasted wonderful. Experiment to find out the proper amount for you.

I love this company and have purchased from them more than a handful of times in the past. It would be very nice if these came in a grinder jar with the lid being removeable for use whole, or, if desired, could be ground as one 'pours' them out.
