How do you make this nutrient rich agar we used it as is and nothing grew daughter project results are due next week please help we have a another 15 gram packet how much beef bouillon and sugar do I need to add for 1liter prep Thanks

Nothing grew in this agar until we made batches with nutrients. Since we broke the 15g down into smaller lots, we ended up adding nutrients by weight. Most folks don't have a scale for this, so my best guess would be 1 Tablespoon of beef or chicken bullion plus 1 Tablespoon of sugar for the entire 15g package. If all else fails, you can substitute plain Knox gelatin for the agar. But, gelatin is not stable at room temperature and especially not in an incubator (it melts after a while into goo). You'll be forced to leave the Knox gelatin experiment in the fridge. Even in that cold environment, some bacteria will grow.

What is the shelf life of the pocket open and unopened? Should I I store this with desiccant packs?

I’ve had the first packet for close to a year and half without any issues after opening it. I would rather put a box of baking soda by the bag rather than put desiccant packets in there. I only say this because so much as sticking your hands in there can potentially compromise the integrity of the product.

My bacteria is not growing. I have used 12 sterilized Petrie dishes and distilled water. It has been several days. Why is this medium not working?

This product is only agar- it does not have the nutrients that microorganisms need to grow. This product is used to make water set up as a gel but you will need to add some beef boullion & sugar (or other nutrients if you are looking for specific bacteria) if you want to grow microorganisms. You could also purchase a product called NUTRIENT AGAR which already has the nutrients mixed with it.
