Illustrated Classics - Black Beauty: Abridged Novels With Review Questions

I have loved the Black Beauty book since I was in elementary school. I still love it.

Perfect gift for a ten year old girl who loves horses.

The book and workbook are each individually fine. The problem is that the workbook is for the unabridged book and the book sold here is abridged. So the chapters don’t line up, and the workbook asks all sorts of specific questions where the answers are not included in the abridged version sold here. We ended up finding most by googling them! But that doesn’t help in demonstrating reading comprehension and just made my daughter feel frustrated and discouraged.

It’s a lovely book with gilded edges and nice illustrations, but it’s not cut very well. I had to separate each of the 240 pages by hand from the cover page to the last. I was giving this as a gift and imagine if I hadn’t unwrapped the plastic and had given it with all the pages stuck together!

It’s one of my favourite story books. I read it as a child and I must say it changed my perception. Now I am introducing it to our 9+ aged students. It’s a firm part of our children’s library
