Picture says black and 2000 degrees but description says gray and 3000 degrees....which is correct?

Product says 2000 on the container as well. Tried some in a kiln at about 2800F and it dried out and crumbled.

Does this coat in forge?

I have only used it in my fireplace to repair around where the mortar was in disrepair around the ash chute. It has held up very well. We use the fireplace qeekly and has shown no degradation whatsoever.

I patched cracked up pad [bottom in fireplace]...Will be hard to scoop ashes with patch ridges. Is this sandable?

Yes it can be sanded but again it dries like concrete
