One Pot Cooking, One Pot for Life.
This is an amazing Dutch oven. I use it for stews, steaks and even baking bread.Lodge (made in USA) use quality iron! Don’t buy the cheap ones from China with a lower temperature range. Those are made from poor quality iron, probably old engine blocks or scrap metal.Just have a look on YouTube for recipes and how to take care of your cast iron ware.

I expect better from Lodge
My 14 inch deep DO just arrived a few moments ago. Unfortunately, it looks like I got one of the seconds - this thing is in rough, rough shape. The seasoning is flaking off all over the lid, and is completely missing in some parts. I can rub my finger on the scuffs that are all over the pot and come away with black residue all over my hand. The bail is so badly bent that it won't fold down over the lid, which is entertaining given the fact that the lid has about 1/4 inch of play all the way around. I bought this because I'm attending a big group camp/cookout, and even considered just living with the poor quality so I would have something to use, but I shelled out more than a Benjamin Franklin, so I expect much better than this. I will be starting the return process later today, and hopefully finding a local retailer where I can see what I'm getting. I like your products quite a bit Lodge, but this is very disappointing.

Don't buy any other cast iron than Lodge
I love everything Lodge cast iron. Have been camp cooking and dutch oven cooking with Lodge for 15 years. Finally my wife decided she was tired of using the teflon/poison coated pans in the kitchen. She threw them all out and began amassing cast iron pans for the kitchen. This oven is awesome. It gets good and hot and cooks perfectly. It is seriously heavy, but all cast iron is. Perfectly seasoned right out of the box and ready to cook.As far as use, care, and cleaning instructions or tips, go right to Lodge. They give the best instructions[...]Seriously, this pan will last an entire lifetime. Really, with proper care, it will last generations. My standard joke to my daughter when I buy a new Lodge is that I just purchased her grandchildren a new pan.[...]

Buy American, buy the best
You can get cheap Chinese knockoffs, but this bad boy is what you want. Nuclear blast? No problem. Earthquake? This pot is unfazed. Can't break it, and once you season it, will produce the best camp beans this side of the Mississippi. And the other side, too! It will bake, fry, steam, saute, stew, simmer, or boil anything you need. If I was going to replace all of my cookware with one thing, this would be it. Want to give off the grid? Buy this thing. Camping for a day? Buy it.

Lodge 10 Deep Camp Dutch Oven
This is one of the largest camp dutch ovens. It is big and heavy, no doubt. But it does the job for a crowd. I've used it twice already for big pots of cowboy beans. It is typical of the constant quality US made cast iron camp cookware by Lodge. It is a shame that most of the other Lodge products are outsourced to China. The cheap materials and lack of quality control show in those items. This oven, with the 16", completes my collection of dutch ovens. I have continual requests to 'cook it' in the dutch oven. To be sure, cast iron does take some special care in cooking, cleaning, oiling and storage. With usage that becomes minimal. The flavor is so much better and an outdoor cooked meal is hard to beat. On those bad weather days these cast iron ovens, if they fit, can always be used in the house oven or gas stove top.Follow the enclosed booklet of hints and simple rules of cast iron cooking for excellent food preparation. There are no better comments than when these giants are presented for serving and the top opened. Stand back and enjoy. Beware, the cast iron is hot and stays hot. Use caution when moving this thing around with full and hot meals. Heavy leather welder's type gloves and a lid tool are a must. This unit is probably best used by an experienced dutch oven cook for a crowd. First time users would be encouraged to start out on the smaller ovens. And remember, when cooking, If you're lookin', you ain't cookin'!

Disappointing
Lid is too loose for a Dutch oven. Lid should have some play but this one had way too loose to maintain proper heat and steam. The lid is looser only in some places which means either the lid or the oven rim is not a true circle. I own three Lodge camp ovens for over 10 yrs. This is the worse I've seen in quality. Does not help when it's shipped w/o proper padding as the product's box was torn exposing part of the pot. Also, there were areas where seasoning did not cover and exposed the bare cast iron. I like Lodge so will return and hope for a better quality oven. Didn't expect this from a Made in America product.
