Engaging children's book set in Civil War Missouri from a female perspective
Many think of the Civil War as mainly fought in the South and Southeast US. But Missouri civilians had to endure years of deprivation at the hands of sympathizers claiming loyalty to both sides. This book does a marvelous job of distilling down these years of strife, through the perspective of a young woman, in a story for children. Written so adults can also appreciate it. Well-crafted story with engaging illustrations of a quality rarely seen in children's books today. Written by a retired teacher who includes discussion questions at the end of the story that will make the book a natural classroom tool. This is the author's inaugural work, and I hope, the first of what should be an successful series. Little known fact: Robert Grace is the same Illustrator who worked on the original American Girl Samantha books.

Great historical adult and children book.
I was so excited when I saw that Mary Rose and the Secret Horses had been released. I ordered one and also down loaded on my kindle to read right then. I enjoyed it and thought it was well written, and the illustrations was great. I was not ready for it to end. Connie Dow and Robert Grace did a wonderful job.I encourage others to buy and read it, you will not be disappointed. MTurn
