Kwikset Cove Entry Knob with SmartKey, Satin Nickel

I bought this to replace an unsightly bright brass lever style knob on my bedroom door that the cats had learned how to open. Although the door handle had a lock, the cats would thump and bump the lever style all night long trying to get in. If I didn't lock the door behind myself, the cats would let themselves into the bedroom. I chose this knob because it better matched my decor, and I could still have the comfort of privacy in my master without the cats being able to get into the room, even when the door wasn't locked. They don't even feel compelled to reach toward the knob anymore because they literally can't do anything to it (you should have seen their agitated faces for the first couple of days after I replaced the knob with this one!).I love the look of the knob, despite that it doesn't, however, have bronze edging as the photo shows. This knob appears all dark dark brown or black, but it's close enough to my fixtures and decor that I really don't care that much. It's also a nice broad diameter and feels good in my hand.This door knob was pretty easy to install and the Smart Key rekey feature is deceivingly simple. I've noticed the interior side of the lock can be a bit difficult to turn, considerably more difficult than other Kwikset knobs in my household (I have four others around the home, installed both interior and exterior). I hoped it would loosen up over time. I don't believe I did anything during installation to make it more difficult, but it's not annoying enough that I'm going to request a replacement knob.

Its easy to install if you read and go slow in stalling

This is an OK budget lock. I have to give it 3 stars though because I am not sure what Amazon is selling here. These are not retail packaged locks. They come in a very lightweight Kwikset branded cardboard box. Very flimsy and not sealed. I'm not sure if these are from a contractor pack or factory second's or customer returns. Mine came without keys and learning tool. There are several other reviews mentioning keys missing. Amazon over-nighted me a replacement, so that was good. The new lockset had keys and learning tool just loose in the box, but the lock itself has several scratches in the clear lacquer-like coating of the knob surfaces. Not really visible, but I could feel the roughness and on closer inspection I saw all the small scratches in the clear coat. The way the whole thing was packaged seemed like a used or reconditioned product. Latch mechanism and screws were sealed in a bag. I've not seen Kwikset products in a box like this in retail stores, some parts would certainly be lost.The lock feels solid and install was easy. I am suspicious of the bad reviews that say things don't line up or the lock binds. Installing a lock can be very easy, but there can also be complications that require some skill to get through. Houses settle, doors and jams warp, etc and you need to recognize these problems and correct them so your lock will function properly. I don't care for the Cove style, the knobs are two different sizes. Inside knob is 2" in diameter. Outside knob is 2 3/8, it just looks weird to me when the door is open and you see both sides. All in all a decent lock for the price, but I would recommend buying a retail packaged Kwikset to avoid missing parts and scratches.

Ordered 3, 1 did not set correctly and I had to return it. They are great knobs! They look nice and are easy to rekey.

I ordered a few of these, and it was very easy to change the keys to all match. That was very nice. We also have some extra non-matching keys that we could use to switch out the front door while we are on vacation if we want to let someone else in. They are very nice looking, and seem durable.Caveat: 1 of the few we ordered has some deep scratches on it from shipping. The latch and hardware packet must have been pressed against the side of the handle very hard in transit. I don't like the rough feeling on that part of the handle when I open the door. I thought about returning the handle to a local store for replacement, but I am not sure they will have the same one, and I like them all matching. I decided it isn't worth the replacement.Smartkey is great, maybe 30 seconds for me to switch what key can open the door.

I used this lock for my outside garage door. My other lock locked me out and in and could not open the door from either side. The only way I was to get in there was with the car garage door opener so I had to replace my door lock with this one. I really like that I could rekey the cylinder my self with the same key I had before. That is so nice for this lock. It did not take me long to change it out and rekey the cylinder. Very easy. I am thinking I might be going to buy more someday to change out my porch doors Locks and the house doors locks someday.

Changing door knobs is an easy way to update to a more contemporary look. This knob is really light (weight-wise). I guess it doesn't matter all that much when it's fixed to the door, but we were wondering whether this is actually made of metal for a bit. The interior knob is also noticeably smaller than the exterior knob (with the keyhole). Not sure why that is. When I grasp the interior knob, it feels oddly small in may hand. Other than that, the knob was easy to install with clear instructions, looks nice, and the smart key was easy to use to change the key. The smart key re-keying tool was loose in the box, not in a little baggie. Mine was hidden in a fold of the cardboard box. If you don't see it at first, tear the box apart.
