Caveat emptor
The heading is Latin for "Let the buyer beware". This is another case of misleading advertising. This TV Tuner is designed for North America ONLY. So, why is it advertised in other countries? While the tuner might well be perfect for America and Canada, for the rest of the planet, it is useless. One product that does work for everywhere else, is the Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-935 HD Hybrid TV Stick.

Will NOT work in Australia
This product is not made for Australia. It will not work in Australia and should not be sold for The Australian market. It's a product for America and should only be sold to Americans in their market.

Wonderful Accessory For Cordcutters with drawbacks
Seems to work best most in powerful and memory loaded computers. At first looked easy enough, the install download from Hauppauge for win 10 didn't work. None of the computers recognized the 1657 as an USB device, even in Device Manager. Toying around and getting nowhere, I noticed another page on the website side small file extra driver for win10 (wintv-solo_dual_quadhd). In desparation installed it. That did the trick. It recieves channels just as well as my existing TV, but now I have a dual channel DVR. Intuitive user interface and smart TV Guide. I can pause anytime and resume live channels. Well worth the money.

Avoid if you want Linux support.
Bought this to watch OTA on my laptop. Couldn't get it working with myth tv on Ubuntu or Debian even with the proprietary firmware and a recent kernel. Apparently it works fine with Plex on linux, but Plex requires a monthly subscription to unlock the tuner function.. ...I am not foolish enough to pay monthly to get access to my own antenna. *Returned*

Product is lacking
1. winTV8.5 app freezes a lot on windows 7 64 bit computers; can replace it instead with other PVR programs like NextPVR2. installation easy3. Killer con - on the same outdoor feed, my 7+ yr old Samsung cheapo 1080p TV got ~23 channels (8 strong local Montreal, 2 Quebec/weak Montreal, others Plattsburg/Burlington). My LG hi end OLED got the same ~23 channels. This will only get the 8 strong local Montreal channels, none of the American ones. (My 2018 higher end Sony gets 5 channels !). Will be returning this.4. The color is also way off, way too much green and red, not enough blue. If you are outputing by hdml to TV and your tv can remember separate different color settings for different hdml inputs, you are ok. If your computer screen can remember different color settings, you are ok. Anything less and you'll have problem using your screen for mixed usage.Net net, with a bad tv tuner, its primary function, and not being able to show halfway true colors, not worth bothering with. Is it really that hard to put out a tuner for a broadcast spec that has been around so long??? Maybe that's a good excuse for starting a semi company making a tuner chip and take the whole market?
