These Dayton funk masters spent time during the 1970' signed to the Westward label. This item presents the best tracks to come from that era, including 'Climax', 'Funky Worm', a cover of the Marvin Gaye smash 'What's Going On', the previously unreleased 'Ain't That Lovin' You (for More Reasons Than One)' & eleven more.

another Funk essential
All I can do is concur with the other reviews: this is a great album. Playful and inventive funk and soul, all recorded in the early 1970s before the Ohio Players changed labels, got on their Love Rollercoaster in Skin Tight outfits and enjoyed a run of fun, funky hits. But this early material on Westbound is just as good, if not better, than their later major label recordings. Yes, you get the funky jams, full of horns and deep grooves, but some of the slower, more soulful material, such as "Varee Is Love" also packs a punch. This music still sounds fresh and funky all these decades later. Excellent collection of songs!

For early devotees.
The CD was "used" from the company was purchased as a gift. No complaints from the recipient. The Ohio Players were real musicians and there is alot of horns, bass, and jazzy sounding music. I purchased for ECastacy, Pleasure and Pain. I would recommend you purchase ONLY if you have some familarity with the group. If so, purchase a used CD, first. This is NOT the later years of "Love Rollercoaster and "Fire."

Introduction to the Players.
This was the Ohio Players at their earliest and funkiest. Westbound layed the golden egg for this group for even better days ahead for where they would soon become household names for the Mercury label. "Pain" to me was one of the most underrated funk tunes of the 70's decade. This is definitely one to add to one's collection.
