Why wouldn't this work on an inswing door? Just install on the inside...I have a door to the outside from my garage.

You could essentially install this lock on the inside of the door, however, this will cause the end of your bolts and nuts to be exposed on the outside. Therefor a thief could easily cut or disassemble the bolts/nuts. Once they accomplish that then all they need to do is use force to shove the door inward which can cause the end brackets to break lose, since the bolts are no longer secure. You may be able to install the bolts with the heads on the outside and the nuts on the inside. But again this may not be as strong since a thief can use their body weight (or more) to slam into the door being that it swings inward. It is harder to get enough force pulling outward against the bar than it is to slam the door inward on the bar. Hope this helps! For more questions feel free to contact us.

Why do they show this key position? Is there a reason you can't flip the bar so the key pad is facing up so you can actually see the lock?

By installing the lock in the shown position it helps protect the lock mechanism from weather, mainly precipitation. If installed with the lock mechanism facing upward this can allow for water to get inside the housing causing lock malfunctions/failure. If you prefer to install the bar another way you may absolutely do so, this is just how we recommend based on our testing. Please note we have added a vinyl weather cap to our products to better help protect them from the elements.
