Brilliant
One of the best Chinese movies I now have in my collection. Absolutely live this movie, the quality is also good when watching this on a 50" TV.

Hopping vampires
Mr. Vampire is so much fun! This movie is hilarious and knows exactly what it wants to be. The characters are well written, the comedy is great, and the production is really good. This Eureka edition does it justice from its amazing remaster to the ton of bonus features included.

Bunny hopping vampires... what music they make!
Eureka! have been putting out a lot of fantastic Hong Kong cinema in recent times. There's been a lot of Jackie Chan, some Sammo Hung, Jet Li and a few more unique titles. It's been building up to quite a collection and my recent purchase of Mr. Vampire has become one of the more memorable of the bunch.Mr. Vampire is a Hong Kong comedy "horror" movie from the director Ricky Lau and producer Sammo Hung. The film stars Lam Ching-ying, Ricky Hui and Chin Siu-ho, a group who deal with the supernatural. Their business directs them towards a corpse that has came back as a vampire. It's up to them to settle the situation. It was released in November of 1985 and is easily one of the more unique Golden Harvest films I have seen.I understood I got the general plot, it was fairly simple. But there's a lot of details in the movie that I assume would be more understanding of those from a Chinese background. With that said, my ignorance on the Chinese supernatural made the film one of the strangest I have seen. There is a sex craved ghost, a gang of bunny hopping vampires straight of a Michael Jackson music video and a strong desire to protect ones self with pure glutinous rice.I've got to give the film a lot of credit where it is due. It's a fun comedy movie and an absolute blast to watch, even if I had no clue what was going on. There's a lot of funny jokes, plenty of slapstick humour and visual gags that will make your question your own existence. There's also a bit of kung-fu thrown in for good measure. The fact that it is a nice 96 minutes long is also worthy of some praise. It's a well paced film, only dragging in the last five minutes. I really enjoyed it.The Eureka! bluray looks fantastic, as they usually do. The picture quality is extremely sharp and has so much clarity. It's easily up there with a lot of the other Hong Kong films they have been releasing this past few years. There's a lot of strong colours, plenty of natural film grain (for those who like that). There are also new subtitles which work very well and two English dubbing tracks. I don't do Asian films in English, so I can't comment on how they sound. There's of course lots of extras, an added bonus for fans of the movie.Reading the reviews on this Amazon page, people make it sound like it's a full on kung fu movie or even a horror film. This is neither. It's easily a comedy film first and foremost. There's no real adult orientated themes of horror or violence that would stop you watching this with your kids. There is a couple of scenes where animals apparently get hurt. One is a snake being gutted and another being a chicken getting its neck slit. But I'm pretty sure the snake is already dead and the chicken has a jump gut, it's clearly a dummy that bleeds. It's no big deal, unless you make it one.Mr. Vampire is so far out there that I can't wait to visit it again, this time with the entire family. This is a silly funny movie that plenty of people would enjoy, if given the chance. It's most definitely worth adding to your collection, especially if the Eureka! Hong Kong releases have been on your radar.

Beautiful 2k transfer of a Hong Kong classic
I grew up with hopping vampire films (videotaped by my parents from late night BBC 2 / Channel 4 in the 1980s), and it was fantastic to see some of them restored to pristine condition by Eureka Classics - and in the original ratio! - after years of shonky copies with 4:3 cropping. Clearly, time, attention and care went into this release.I haven't bought physical media for years, but I've grabbed every Golden Harvest jiāngshī reissued by Eureka, including a couple I'd never seen before, and haven't regretted a penny or second of it.
