Enthralling continuation of the saga
Don't stop now! This installation in the saga continues to be brilliantly written and impossible to put down. Can't wait to start the next one.

Wowza
I had to go with 5 stars even with the cussing. If youβve invested the time to get through the previous books and become friends with the characters you are going to have your teeth kicked in. I had tears. The author knows when you have a war there will be personal tragedies. Wielding a keyboard with the precision of a surgeon he cuts deep.

Graphic and frequent descriptions of sexual assaults, the killing of both children and adults, maiming, etc. are unacceptable.
This is not an entirely bad book. The author has decent writing skills and the book appears to be professionally edited. In spite of this, I was not able to enjoy it. This is because there are some serious problems with this book and with the series. The series takes place against the dark background of the town of Midian, Tennessee. Midian is a "hot spot" for demonic incursions and is destined to fall in the most horrible ways imaginable. The world is prophesied to follow Midian into destruction. This is simply depressing. This book and the others in the series contain graphic descriptions of sexual assault, the killing of both children and adults, torture, maiming and the eating of human flesh. I have worked across a few different fields in my lifetime. In one of those, I encountered severe and frequent human misery in the real world. I hated it. There is nothing good about it. I would far rather read a more upbeat bit of escapism literature.Former victims of sexual assaults, family members of victims, and friends of victims are likely to find themselves appalled by fictional accounts of sexual assaults. Anybody who has lost a child, spouse, parent, or friend to a violent death should be appalled by this book. There have been numerous social and psychological studies of the impact of graphic descriptions of violence in the media. There is near universal acceptance that this desensitizes people to violence in the real world. Violent crime rates rise and the severity of violent crime becomes worse in response. The plot line is repetitive across the series. The good guys fight the demons, they suffer severely along the way, and win the current battle. They never have a chance to fully recover before the next round of battles are upon them. Some of the good guys die along the way. The next battles are worse because the author has to top the last thing that he wrote. Is the author striving to create a more realistic story? Is he trying to say something positive about the indomitable nature of the human spirit? If so, the effort fails. I find myself wishing that the heroes would give up and stop prolonging the suffering.I recall a freshman economics class I took many years ago. The professor was fond of saying that the person who found himself offered a poor quality product should vote for a better product with his feet. The person who found himself offered a product at too high a cost should bargain with his feet. He meant that people should simply walk away under these circumstances. I plan to vote with my feet by walking away from this series.

I could not put it down!
This next chapter in the series is just as good as the previous ones, only a little bit more difficult to get through because of the thoroughly engrossing story line! Robert J. Crane has very quickly become one of my all-time favorite authors in a very short time frame! Just try ANYTHING he's written, you will not be sorry!

Good stuff
One glaring deficiency. Most demons only require a small nick with a holy blade but not one person in thousands of years has consecrated a set of spiked body armor with gauntlets so the demons CANNOT disarm the hunter without vaping themselves

Good book
Really good series by one of my favorite authors. This book had some really wild stuff happen, no way to have even seen some of this coming. It did drag a bit at the end with too much repetition of all the killing and such, but still really good. What a great series marred by poor editing. Just like the first four books, this one has numerous misspellings, words that don't go where they are being used and other errors.I really like the series, but damn, somebody needs to proof these better. The other series of Cranes that I've ready (Sanctuary) had little or no error so I am wondering what happened here.

Good read
I've read up to #5 so far. Excellent series. Well written, thoughtful, good action sequences. Naughty words - B.F.D. that's what the warning is for at the start. It's different as far as "demon" stories go with good twists.

A fun series from a good author, but not without its flaws.
I'm a fan of two Crane series' but I like Southern Watch a lot as his "adult" option. If you've read Girl in the Box or anything like that, you can expect some of the same action, minus the superpowers, but with a lot moe swear words and sexual situations as well as some more graphic violence. As usual the entire series comes with a pinch writing errors on top. Mostly there are some words missing from some sentences; honestly I blame Crane's Editor more than Crane himself. But if that kind of thing bugs you, you may be slightly bugged by this author.

Riveting! 5-stars!
This is book 5 of a very riveting series. A multitude of demons residing in an artifact is discovered and unleashed to the world. They call themselves Legion, a new kind of scourge to strike Midian. Arch and Hendricks face an evil unlike any other. Duncan the OOC even thought that demons like these no longer existed. Sheriff Reeve starts to believe that the problems stem from supernatural causes and the whole town turns against him. The "watch" are targeted and hit left and right without reprieve. The entire story was one jittery ride for me. I didn't know what to expect. I am awed by Robert Crane's storytelling. He leaves me looking over a ledge most of the time, cliffhanging after every chapter. There was so much loss of lives in this installment and a beloved character dies in the end. This book gives the various characters equal airtime so the reader becomes acquainted with them intimately. Robert Crane's characters are distinct individuals, no one is like another in thoughts and dialogue. I cannot wait to read the next book, Starling. I highly recommend the series. A bit of warning for the faint-hearted - there is a lot of swearing and gore.

Demons take on many forms to give meaning to this continuing take
Each time the group think they have seen their worst demons another lot surface .Legion is by far the worse that the group fighting have ever seen. They use the belief thatThey have been harmed and hurt to destroy the Southern Watch taking out many of the team and destroying families and friends attacking the innocent ones. It is a must read if you likeDemons versus good and know it will not disappoint

So worth the wait
"My name is legion, for we are many" is a line that's been quoted many times, but none more chilling than in this case. We're back with Hendricks, Arch and The Watch in this latest instalment, and see a few more people added to their little band of fighters, including a surprise return character (didn't see that one coming!). Midian has been under attack before, but nothing like this latest threat, and sadly no one ever listens until it's too late. Be warned, utter carnage and chaos is about to ensue, and it's not for the faint of heart, with some pretty graphic scenes of destruction.I often say I'd like to spend a day in the mind of my favourite authors, (RJ Crane being one of them) but not in this case, no thank you!Eagerly awaiting the next book, and itching to know what Duncan found out!

Great as usual
Of course being the butcher that he is Crane showed his characters no mercy as he put them through the ringer. I didn't believe that a book could end in more darkness than the most recent sanctuary book but I was naive and foolish and I have been disabused of that notion. I really enjoyed this book and I really enjoy this series. I look forward to the day when I can discuss this series with people the way I currently do with ASOIF. Looking forward to the new book whether it's legend like I expect or another adventure of Sienna Nealon.

Supernatural
This is one hell of a ghost train of demons! None stop action all the way to the last page. Just keeps going. You don't notice how well written it is because you cannot stop reading it and the characters are so real!
