This comes in a 4.3 and 5.9 inch wide base. I got the larger one so I do not have to worry about a 33" tall GMRS antenna being knocked off the top of my 4x4 when going thru light brush. The antenna has a spring close to the base and the whip can be bent all the way to 90 degrees without the base moving at all. These stick on so solid they are hard to remove. Having tried this, I think the 4.3" base would have been plenty strong. I ordered this because I was getting high SWR on two different antennas with two other MNO magnet mount bases. It turned out to be a defective bases for anything other than a 1/4 wave whip. With this base, both antennas are reading 1.00 to 1.02 ratio. I am clueless as to how a MNO base can be bad. I have two with the same problem and even put new coax and fittings on them. When in doubt with a magnet mount - always get a wide base unless you are using a short whip and never off road. Update: This sticks solid enough to run a 35" tall antenna at highway speeds. [ 55 to 65 for me ] I have decided to carry two antennas. The tall high gain one for open country and a simple 1/4 wave steel whip for areas with low hanging branches and even leaves. Lesson learned.
