Small Shank, measures about .427 inches (10.85 mm) at the tip.

is this trombone made in USA?

I don't know for certain, but I believe this instrument is made in China. For the price, I paid about 80 dollars for this horn, it is a very good buy. The case, although quite small, is solid and sturdy. Overall, it is one of the best instrument purchases I have ever made on Amazon. I like this horn.
